At this point, it’s easy to imagine the writer-director Ryan Johnson create some sort of Thanos-type challenge for each installment of Knives Out franchise — assemble as many talented A-list players as possible to bring it together Daniel Craig’s Detective Benoit Blanc in the latest mystery and wrapped up.
Johnson and Netflix announced the third installment in the exciting franchise in May 2024, it shows more than the title: Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. The new movie follows the original Knives Out — released in 2019 — also 2022 Onion Glass: A Knives Out Mystery.
“I love everything about whodunits, but one of the things I love the most is how malleable the genre is,” the director said on social media before announcing the threequel title. “There’s a tonal spectrum from Carr to Christie, and exploring that range is one of the most exciting things about making a Benoit Blanc film.”
Casting information began to roll in after the announcement of the film, with Craig will be joined by stars like Josh O’Connor (The Crown, Challengers), Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla, Civil War), Andrew Scott (Fleabag, Ripley), Kerry Washington (Scandal, Small Fire everywhere), Glenn Closeand Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye, Mayor of Kingstown).

Daniel Craig as Detective Benoit Blanc
Only the main character is constant throughout the first two Knives Out The film has Detective Benoit Blanc, Craig who is deep-thinking, the country’s fried detective, who finds the answer — and the killer — even though it seems like everything is lost.
In January 2023, Johnson teased what fans can expect to see Hugh Grant returns as Craig’s love interest in another Knives Out the film after which he appeared in Onion Glass.
“Honestly, you throw a rock here and you’re going to hit someone I’d like to see in one of those mystery movies. So we’ll see,” he told ET on the Moet platform at the 2023 Golden Globe Awards before discussing the potential continuation of the romance between Grant and Craig’s character. “We’ll see. Look, I’ll just have to be lucky to have Hugh Grant in another mystery movie. We’ll see what happens. Everything is a possibility.”
Josh O’Connor
Fresh from the buzzed-about performance Challenger — a stark contrast to the role of a good period piece Crown and Emma — it will be interesting to see what kind of character O’Connor steps into the new Knives Out movie, although no details have been announced.
Cailee Spaeny
At Priscilla another star hot young star to join in Knives Out franchise after showing her reach in 2024 with her appearance not only in Sofia Coppola’s emotional biopic, but also in Alex Garland’s terrifying dystopian thriller, Civil war.
Andrew Scott

The upcoming film will be Renner’s first feature project since his a life-threatening snowplow accident in January 2023. Since his epic role as Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the actor has starred in the Paramount series + Mayor of Kingstown.
PLOT
Netflix announced Rise of the Dead in May 2024, did not reveal anything about the upcoming film – except for its title.
The teaser video features a voiceover from Craig as Benoit, hinting that the franchise’s third installment might be even more terrifying than its predecessor.
“In the beginning, the knife came out. Then, the glass broke,” Detective Blanc recalled in a short clip of suspenseful music. “But my most dangerous case is about to be revealed.”
PRODUCTION & RELEASE DATE
As of May 2024, casting announcements have begun, meaning production is in its early stages. However, in the Netflix announcement, they indicated that the plan is now to release the third one Knives Out movie in 2025.
