Jenna Ortega remembers how the late Cameron Boyce stood up for her during an audition she was supposed to kiss when she was younger.
The 21-year-old actress has known Boyce since childhood when he was a Disney Channel star. The actor died in 2019 at the age of 20 after suffering a seizure while sleeping.
Ortega and her “Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice” co-stars Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara recently sat down for an interview with French TV outlet Canal + when the “Wednesday” actress recalled the last exchange she shared with Boyce before her death.
“Last time I saw my friend Cameron Boyce – I’ve known him since I was 11 or 12, and we got to kiss (at the audition) and he knew me, since I was 11 or 12,” Ortega said. . “It was a few years later, 15 or 16, we came and we were supposed to be love interests. But because it obviously felt weird and it was a bit old, it was like – we both just kinda looked at each other and we were like, ‘No, we can’t do this.'”
“And it’s so sweet because I’m uncomfortable, and I’m in trouble,” she continued. “And then, we wish each other well.”

Ortega told her friends that she was “very thankful and grateful” that Boyce had noticed her discomfort and spoken up for her.
Ryder and O’Hara both praised the star “Mrs. Fletcher” for his chivalrous actions, which he was listening to the “gentleman”.
In July 2019, Boyce’s family said he died in his sleep “due to seizures caused by an ongoing medical condition.”
At Los Angeles The county coroner’s office later released an autopsy report stating that Boyce’s death was accidental due to exposure.

When Boyce died, his family released a heartfelt statement through a spokesperson.
“It is with very heavy hearts that we report the loss of Cameron this morning,” said a spokesperson for the Boyce family.
“The world is missing one of its brightest lights, but his spirit will live on through the kindness and compassion of all who knew and loved him,” he said. The family said they were “deeply saddened” by the death and asked for privacy while grieving.

Boyce has been acting since the age of 9 and is involved in charity work. In March 2019, he introduced former Vice President and US Presidential candidate Joe Biden at the Biden Courage Awards.
During a June interview with People magazine at the annual Cam For A Cause fundraiser for The Cameron Boyce Foundation, the actor’s parents Libby and Victor expressed their gratitude to friends and fans who paid tribute to Boyce on May 258, which would have been his 25th birthday. .
Victor told the outlet that the outpouring of love for his son “means everything.”
