Pages of unsealed evidence against Donald Trump in the federal election subversion case are “very important” to voters ahead of Election Day in November, according to former president Mary Trump’s niece.
US District Judge Tanya Chutkan released a 165-page document filed by special counsel Jack Smith on Wednesday detailing Justice Department allegations that Trump is trying to stay in the White House despite knowing he is losing to President Joe Biden in 2020.
Prosecutors in the document focused on Trump’s conduct as a private citizen and candidate, not the president, in response to a Supreme Court ruling in July that determined Trump was protected from facing criminal charges related to “official acts” he performed as president.
Trump faces four federal felonies in the case, including conspiracy to defraud the United States. The new evidence in the Smith document includes accounts of Trump and his operatives repeatedly insisting that the 2020 election was marred by voter fraud — even as GOP-aligned officials told the former president that those claims were false.
In a post to the Substack blog on Thursday, Mary Trump, a psychologist who has often criticized her uncle, highlighted several parts of Smith’s submission, including a detailed account of Trump’s operations that “seek to create chaos, rather than seek clarity” in the country. polling stations under surveillance for voter fraud. They also have Smith’s evidence related to the former president’s actions on January 6, 2021, when Trump supporters stormed the US Capitol as Congress certified Biden’s victory.
“Because Donald Trump has so effectively gamed the legal system, there is no way that this case will go to trial before the election,” wrote Mary Trump, referring to the many other legal challenges facing the former president. has been delayed in court until after the 2024 elections. “Because of the illegitimate and corrupt majority in the Supreme Court, there is a real possibility that this case will not be tried.”
“That’s why it’s so important that Judge Chutkan and Jack Smith get this information in front of voters before November 5,” he added. “We deserve to know all the alarming details of the depth of the depravity of Donald Trump. We need to know that the Republican Party’s presidential candidate, and the traitors who continue to support him almost inexplicably, are involved in a conspiracy against the American people.”
Newsweek Trump’s office was reached by email for comment Thursday.
Trump has pleaded not guilty to all of the charges included in Smith’s indictment and maintains his innocence. He also accused prosecutors of trying to derail his chances for a second term in the White House.
The former president’s defense team has sought to withhold large portions of Smith’s heavily redacted documents, arguing that the Justice Department was seeking to release a “politically motivated manifesto” shortly before the election.
However, Chutkan rejected the argument, writing in court on Wednesday that “these allegations, which are not supported by the Defendant, continue the pattern of defense submissions that focus on political rhetoric rather than addressing the legal issues at hand.”
Trump on Wednesday expressed his anger on Social Truth that the “brief release of false, unconstitutional, (January 6)” is “another clear attempt by the Harris-Biden regime to destroy and weaponize American Democracy, and interfere with the 2024 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION. .”
“The deranged Jack Smith, the Harris-Biden DOJ Attorney, and the Radical Left Democrats based in Washington, DC, are absolutely BENT to continue Weaponizing the Justice Department to try to hold onto power,” added the former president.
