What Did the Menendez Brothers Say About the âMonsterâ?
Soon after Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story released on Netflix, Erik released a statement condemning the series for portraying him and his brother.
âI believe we have moved beyond the lies and ruinous character portrayals of Lyle, creating a caricature of Lyle rooted in horrible and blatant lies rampant in the picture,â Erik noted. âI just believe that he did it on purpose. With a heavy heart, I believe that Ryan Murphy could not be naive and inaccurate about the reality of life to do this without bad intentions.
In response to Erik and his familyâs criticism of the show, Giants author of the anthology Ryan Murphy slammed him for âplaying the victim card.â
âThe MenĂ©ndez brothers had to send me flowers,â Ryan said THR in September 2024. âHe has not had much attention for 30 years. And he has received attention not only in this country, but in the whole world. There is a kind of outpouring of interest in his life and in the case. ⊠I know for a fact that many people have offered to help him because interest in my show and what we do,â
Ryan also pointed out that with Giantshe tells âa story thatâs a very broad canvas,â points out defense attorneys Lyle and Erik, Leslie Abramsonwriter Dominick Dunne and JosĂ© and Kittyâs background.
âWe also tell the story of the parents, who blew their heads off,â added Ryan. âWe have an obligation to many people, not just to Erik and Lyle. But what I find so appealing; that they are playing the victim card now â âpoor, pity usâ â that I think is rude and disgusting.
