What a Jack-a-!
Cora Hayes, a native of Sydney, Australia, backpacked around Europe when she got matching tattoos with her hot fling Jack. As always, Hayes thought this love could be permanent – until he was ghosted on the second date.
In a series of TikTok clips posted on her account @meowinthehat, Hayes revealed the fallout from her international love story.
The loved-up couple tied the knot and had an “instant connection,” Kennedy News and Media reported, which led to them getting “identical” lemon tattoos within 24 hours of meeting in Edinburgh, Scotland.
“We went to the tattoo parlor and got a matching tattoo of a little lemon. There was no reason, but we both agreed on the lemon and got the same tattoo together,” Hayes said.
Hayes, 22, revealed that the first date was such a hit that they decided to link up again in his hometown of Scotland after he finished traveling in England.
“I told him I had some free time on the trip and I could come back. He said, ‘Yes, come back. I’d love to see you again,'” she recalled.
The duo confirmed plans for a second date, and Hayes bought a $181 flight from England to Scotland.
“I sent my flight details and made sure that the days and everything. During that time, we were still texting, and things were going well,” he added.
However, as they grew closer, the shop assistant realized that her future husband had “brought tears” to her just two days before the flight.
“I got a message saying, ‘Hey, I’m sorry, a family issue has come up. I can’t make it this weekend. I hope you get home safe.’ “They knew I wasn’t coming back to Australia for a month, but they didn’t try to move the date,” Hayes said.
Australia believes that Jack has made up an excuse, but she remains optimistic and flies out to the hometown of her love interest, even though she does not know anyone else there.
While there, he made sure to post her online so Jack could see she was in the area, but all he did was watch her Instagram story instead of getting close.
“No matter how you feel about the situation, ghosts are not an excuse. That’s the part I can’t wrap my head around. Just saying it won’t happen,” he sighed.
After staying in a dormitory room with two Australian girls for four nights, Hayes left the country on June 20, feeling “panicked” and abandoned.
“I blame myself and think that I’m not good enough. I blame myself. But the way people treat you is a reflection of themselves and not you. You just have to know your worth,” she said.
Hayes later found out Jack stood him up because he “came too late” and “he didn’t want to get hurt because I live in Australia.”
Disturbed by the lack of transparency and honesty, Hayes knew that reconciliation was not in his future.
“Leaving someone in the dark like that is crazy to me. I don’t know how you can do that. I feel bad – when he’s in your hometown,” he said.
Despite her unfortunate love story, Hayes made another connection with her dorm roomies, who decided to get matching lemon tattoos like hers after she revealed the reason for the trip.
“It’s very empowering. It’s kind of like your af–k. For him, the tattoo is still the same story but for me, it’s changed to a story of friendship and a girl. He’ll never forget me.”
Although Hayes’ trip has turned out differently, he still “loves Edinburgh” because he can see the true colors of Jack and Forge’s new friendship.
“Remember that you are a good person and you are loved. There are many other people out there. There is a lot of love even if it is not romantic love.”
