Meri Brown shed some light on how your ex-husband is Kody Brown and his sister’s husband Janelle Brown dealing with the death of his son Garrison Brown.
“I have talked to everyone, and I have good days and bad days,” Meri, 53, said of the couple on June 10, episode of the podcast “Miss Understood With Rachel Uchitel”. “I don’t know how there isn’t.”
Meri, who split from Kody, 55, in January 2023 after more than 30 years together, noted that she also had a hard time processing Garrison’s death.
“There are still times when I’ll look at a picture of Garrison and I’ll be like, ‘Awww. I’m not happy that this happened,'” Meri said. “It’s really sad, you know?”
Meri explained that she felt “very much” for Janelle, 55, as a mother. “I watched my mother lose two of her own children before she passed…it’s tragic,” Meri added.
Garrison died by death in March at the age of 25. The Sister Wife star is one of the six children of Kody and Janelle.
“Janelle and I are deeply saddened to announce the loss of our beautiful baby boy Robert Garrison Brown,” Kody said via Instagram at the time. “He was a bright spot in the lives of all who knew him. Our loss will leave a huge hole in our lives, which takes our breath away. We ask that you respect our privacy and join us in honoring his memory.
Kody and Janelle – who announced their split in December 2022 – also share Logan, 30, Maddie, 28, Hunter, 27, Gabriel, 22, and Savanah, 19.
Kody also has six children with his ex-husband Christine Brownwho left him in November 2021. Kody and Meri have one child, Leon, while he and his fourth wife, Robyn Brown, with two children. Kody legally adopted Robyn’s three children from a previous relationship when they married in 2014.
While the Brown family was torn apart before Garrison’s death, they came together to mourn the loss at a private funeral in March.
The next month, Meri reflected on how Garrison meant to the family after finding a photo with him from last year.
“Seeing him cry immediately, proof of the love I have for him, the pain of losing him,” Meri wrote in an April Instagram post. “This is a reminder that grief comes in unexpected waves, memories of moments with him are all that remain. These four weeks without him here with us. Memories of a lifetime to keep sacred.”
Janelle, for her part, revealed in May that she had an “emotional surprise” on Mother’s Day without Garrison there to celebrate.
“All weekend I felt very sad on the surface. And it was especially poignant when I made this simple pie,” Janelle wrote via Instagram. “Our strawberry picking trip combined with the fact that I randomly found rhubarb at the local farmers market made this pie taste has been determined.”
She chose to make strawberry rhubarb pie for the holiday because it’s a family favorite. “Maybe no one loves it more than Garrison,” Janelle added. “And that makes this cake a little bitter. I love you honey and miss you every day.
Despite their shared heartbreak, Meri revealed on Monday’s podcast that she is still not close with her brother’s ex-wife after their breakup.
“When I see them, we have a good conversation, but I’m not trying to be in a relationship,” Meri told the host. Rachel Uchitel. “It took me a little bit to understand and understand that it’s okay. Some people are only in your life for a season. It’s okay if the relationship isn’t reciprocal and doesn’t build me up or build me up, that’s okay.
