Follow-up Essay by Kip Hansen — June 28, 2024 — 900 words
My new essay is titled “Why Are They Lying About Extreme Temperature Deaths?” highlights the outright falsehoods repeated in the mainstream media about the dangers of extreme temperatures, heat and cold, prompted and supported by the main Climate Crisis Propaganda cabal: Covering the Current Climate and In Climate News. Of course, worse than that, in the United States, even federal government agencies, under the guise of informing the public, do the same thing.
For example, in Environmental Protection Agency, EPAoffers a series of Climate Change Indicators. Why the EPA has such a large section on climate change is a mystery to me, other than agenda-push ranks, but there you have it: big government. Agenda Enviro-Climatism great writing. On the “Climate Change Indicators: Heat-Related Deaths” page, the EPA tells us, in the Background section of the page:
“Heat is the leading weather-related killer in the United States”
This is just “talk” and not true, not even according to the EPA itself Climate Change Indicators.
We at WUWT (and dozens of other kindred spirits in the blogosphere) are not alone in the war against propaganda on the issue of Climate Change. Allies are not limited to those who usually report on climate, weather and related science news.
Here I draw your attention to a useful and well-written editorial in Issues & Insights“Heat Wave Creates New Round of ‘Climate Crisis’ Lies” by I & I Editorial Board on June 19, 2024. These people are professionals: “Issues & Insights managed by experienced journalists who are behind IBD’s Pulitzer Prize-winning Editorial (Investor’s Business Daily).) page (before it closes quickly). This was brought to my attention via the “WUWT Tips and Notes” page by John Merline at I&I (a sample of past writing here ). This is an editorial well worth reading and has some very clear and useful graphics. There was a friend piece written a few days later “Google Doesn’t Want You To Know The Truth About Heat Waves And ‘Climate Change'”, which should be read as well.
He said: “There’s a summer heat wave, which gives reporters a chance to fill their stories with climate change boilerplate. It no longer matters whether something is true. Just the opposite, in fact. If you share the truth, you are accused of being a denier.
The web page has a small note at the top: “Follow up: As predicted, Google blocks ads from appearing on this page because, according to Google, they contain “untrustworthy and dangerous claims.”
me & me offers this graphic:
It shows the annual Deaths per Million with data from the EPA’s Climate Change Indicators page, Heat-Related Deaths and Cold-Related Deaths.
(Aside: There is a funny and ongoing story about these two pages, which I will tell later Author’s Comment section after the essay.)
The EPA data, which comes from the CDC death certificate database, clearly shows that, in the United States, when calculating the data included in the Death Certificate (see my essay here), in the last years shown, the cold killed people. at a rate of 5 to 6 per million per year, which heat kills at a rate between 2 to 3 per million. (In the “funny story” bit, the EPA has updated the heat death to “almost 5” in 2022 but has neglected to update the cold death since 2016.) And, as is the case with all intellectual maps, the EPA still insists that “Heat is the leading weather-related killer in the United States” contrary to self-published data.
It is heartening to discover that the Climate Realist point of view has allies in the business world, who are not bothered by propagandists and enforcers.
What do you do? you think this “Heat Kills More” talking point based?
I suspect that this is an agenda-driven comparison between Heat-Related Deaths and deaths from tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, lightning, cold, winter, wind and ‘rip currents’. only according to fake NOAA NWS graphics I have discussed so many times.
At real data in relative Heat and Cold Related Death around the world covered in “Why Are They Lying About Extreme Temperature Deaths?” which includes links to definitive studies at the end.

Author’s Comment:
Funny thing: While I was working on this, I made myself, a more complete version of the hot / Cold Death Graphic rate of I & I (which I will use in the second follow-up next week). As I worked hard, all morning, checking back to the EPA’s Climate Indicators page over and over again to get the details, the EPA updated its Heat-Related Deaths page adding a few more years of data (meaning trends):
I’ve been in touch with the Climate Indicators team at the EPA about this: they updated the Heat-Related Deaths page, but not the Cold-Related Deaths page. And yes, golly, it looks suspicious that they have been able to change data that is trending down into data that is trending. Don’t jump to conclusions yet. I will let the reader know when it has been sorted out with the EPA.
I appreciate the John Merline me & me for looping us in the work “climate lies”.
Thank you for reading.
