Ahead of the Haryana assembly elections on October 5, all parties are trying to woo the farmers who hold the key to power in the state.
The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party is primarily concerned about getting votes from this section of society. With growing anti-incumbency after 10 years of rule and fresh protests by farmers, the BJP is keen to make a mistake.
While the party’s top leadership will ensure farmers’ participation in rallies across the country, the BJP’s main focus will be on massive outreach efforts at the grassroots level.
Sources in the know of the development said that the BJP will conduct a door-to-door campaign across the country for this reason. Leaders from national to state level will interact with farmers and farmer leaders. Programs like chaupals in villages and meetings with farmer leaders will be organized. The BJP leader will also explain in detail the work done by the Narendra Modi government at the Center and the Haryana government in the state for the welfare of the farming community. In fact, in a door-to-door interaction, BJP leaders would also distribute pamphlets to the farmers, pointing out how the previous government had “failed to work and was only used as a vote bank”.
“Not only is the government at the Center ensuring that farmers’ insurance helps the people in tough times, but also the BJP government is the only one to give MSP in all 24 crops in the state,” party sources said. BJP is very committed to the welfare of farmers, despite the controversial agriculture bill passed by Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took the decision to withdraw it in the interest of the people.
Even during the April-June Lok Sabha elections, the BJP talked about focusing on Annadata (farmers), women, youth and the poor. Prime Minister Modi coined the term, GYAN, which is an acronym to describe the section, which is said to be the only caste in the country.
On Sunday, there was a Kisan Mahapanchayat in Kurukshetra, where farmers decided to block the BJP government from retaining power in the state in the upcoming elections. He also announced that he will block trains across the country in agitation against the saffron party on October 3 and will not vote for the BJP.
Keeping this in mind, the BJP has come up with a new strategy ahead of the polls.

All 90 assembly seats in Haryana will go to polls in the first phase on October 5. The BJP managed to form the government in 2014 and 2019. The BJP is in a bitter battle with the Bhupinder Singh Hooda-led Congress. However, Congress is also facing many problems such as being a divided house. The differences between Lok Sabha members of Parliament Kumari Selja and Hooda created discomfort in the party.
