Vice President Kamala Harris campaigned with about 100 Republicans in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday (October 17, 2024). The Democratic candidate for the White House then sat down for an interview with Bret Baier on the conservative channel Fox Newswho strongly supports former US President and Republican candidate Donald Trump.
The Harris rally was held at Washington Crossing, where General George Washington crossed the Delaware river before the Battle of Trenton, a pivotal battle in the American War of Independence. Pennsylvania has been the biggest prize for both candidates with US President (candidate) Joe Biden winning Bucks County in 2020.
With the words ‘State before the party’ on one side of the lectern, Ms. Harris repeated his promise to appoint Republicans to his cabinet. Republican lawmakers, including former Rep. Adam Kinzinger, a Trump critic, stood on stage, applauding at various points during the speech.
Ms Harris was introduced by former Trump supporters Bob and Christina Lange.
“In a typical election year, all of you here might be surprised … but not in this election,” Ms. Harris, explains that democratic ideals are at stake.
He praised the former Republican Vice President, Mike Pence, for allowing the certification of the 2020 election to proceed, despite threats to his life during the January 6, 2021 attack on the US Capitol by a mob of Trump supporters.
“If it wasn’t for the courage and patriotism of Vice President Pence that day, Donald Trump might actually have overturned the will of the American people,” he said.
He cited Mr Trump as recently saying in an interview that he would use the military if necessary against “the enemy from within”. He suggested that if elected, he would go after journalists, judges and non-partisan election officials he disliked.
“It is clear that Donald Trump is increasingly unstable and weak,” he said.
Appealing to independents and Republicans, he said, “… No matter your party, no matter who you voted for last, there is a place for you in this campaign.” Mrs. Harris said he will have a bipartisan council to provide him with solutions to the state’s pressing problems.
“I believe that for America to be the strongest democracy in the world, we must have a healthy two-party system,” he said.
Not long ago, in an interview with him Fox NewsMrs. Harris was pressed on the record on the US-Mexico border and policies with regard to illegal migration and undocumented migrants. He declined to answer the question directly, saying, for example, that he would follow federal law when asked if he supported giving undocumented migrants driver’s licenses, free health care and free university tuition. While he said it was unfortunate that people had killed migrants who had been released in the US, he said Mr Trump had undermined a bipartisan bill that would have increased border security.
When asked why the majority of Americans feel the country is on the wrong track, he spoke of Mr. Trump’s divisiveness. Once again, he cited Mr Trump’s reference to the “enemy within”.
Harris was asked about comments he made last week about aligning with President Joe Biden’s policies.
“Let me be clear: My presidency will not be a continuation of the presidency of Joe Biden,” he said, noting that he has not spent his career in Washington, DC.
“I represent a new generation of leadership,” he said.
Explaining the reason in the interview, campaign spokesperson Ms. Harris Brian Fallon said, “He can reach an audience that probably hasn’t been exposed to the arguments he made on the road…”, adding that Ms. Harris should present it. he “toughness” by speaking with the “hostile” interviewer.
