Our Lord’s Love Delivers, New York City only nonprofit provider of medical meals and nutrition services for individuals with life-changing illnesses, ramping up their efforts this holiday season for clients and their families. Since 1985, the organization has offered free, tailored meals and nutrition counseling, extending services to children and caregivers of clients – without having to wait on a list.
As the holidays approach, God’s Love We Send is preparing to distribute 18,000 Thanksgiving feasts in November and 18,000 other special winter feasts in December. Delivering these massive meals is made possible through months of planning, cooking and the dedication of staff and volunteers.
The organization’s holiday program also includes a few extra touches. Families will receive Thanksgiving gift totes with snacks, dental care kits, personal care bags and holiday gifts for everyone in the household. For winter meals, clients will also receive a special gift as a surprise for their children.
This initiative is part of the organization’s mission to ensure high-quality food delivery and support for those facing significant health challenges, especially during the holiday season.
A powerful example of the impact of God We Deliver on our clients is the story of Bobby Keane, a US Marine Corps Veteran.
Meet Bobby Keane
“I joined the Marines right out of high school,” Bobby said. “I felt like I had one foot on the skateboard and one foot in the grave, and I thought I had to do something to survive.”
Despite joining in peacetime, his experiences were shaped by the 1983 Beirut barracks bombing, which killed 241 service members, including 220 Marines, leaving Bobby with challenges and PTSD. “It really traumatized me,” Bobby recalled.
While in the service, Bobby boxed for the All-Marine Team. “Being healthy and eating right is the most important thing,” he said. “If you don’t make weight, they’ll send you back to your unit.”
Bobby’s service and time with the All-Marine Team instilled a lifelong commitment to fitness and nutrition, which in turn led him to God’s Love We Send. After his mother-in-law became a client, Bobby was impressed by the quality of the food he received.
“I had a lot of fun when I tried it,” he said. Inspired by his experience, Bobby joined the organization CONNECTED, a program for US Military Veterans, which not only provides medically designed meals, but also builds community and personal outreach.
At the last checkup, Bobby’s doctor praised: “Whatever you eat, keep it, because it works.” Bobby has noticed improvements beyond his physical health, saying that even his mental capacity has improved. The organization’s Registered Dietitian Nutritionists have played an important role in tailoring their meals to their preferences and ensuring they are supported through CONNECTED.
Bobby said, “I’m not just preaching to sell food; I preach what has happened to me. I have been on this diet for the past three years, and my weight has stabilized, and my blood pressure and cholesterol are perfect. My wife and I are very happy.”
“When it comes to PTSD,” he said, “everyone faces their own demons and tries to fight their own battles. Your diet doesn’t have to be one of them. It has to be part of the solution. God’s Love Meals will give you peace of mind that you can eat and not stress and worry about what to eat or how you feel.”
