Mother of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau thanks for the emotional tribute honoring his last sons after his tragic death.
“Thank you to the Columbus Blue Jackets organization, the players, their families, and the entire city of Columbus,” Jane Gaudreau show through X on Sunday, October 20. “The love and support you have shown John, Matty, and the family has helped us through the most difficult time of our lives.”
She added, “This past week, you made our boys feel special. It was so moving to witness the outpouring of love for John and the entire Gaudreau family. I hope you all get to know Matty – he was just like John, and I know you will love him too.” they.
Jane shared photos from the tribute Tuesday, Oct. 15, which marked the Blue Jackets’ first regular season game since the deaths of Johnny, 31, and Matthew, 29.
He also thanked Boston College, where Johnny and Matthew played, for the tribute video they posted on Friday, October 18.
“Some of my best memories are with family and friends watching John and Matty play at Boston College ❤️❤️,” Jane wrote via X.
The brothers were hit and killed by a suspected drunken driver while riding their bikes in Oldmans Township, New Jersey on August 29, the night before they were scheduled to be their sister’s chaperones. Katie Gaudreauhis marriage.
During the pregame ceremony at Columbus’ Nationwide Arena, a video montage was shown featuring a clip of Johnny’s interview discussing his love for hockey.
“Growing up my father had me on the ice, and I was two or three days old,” Johnny said. “He put me on skates as soon as he could and he put my brother on skates as soon as he could. We’ve been a hockey family ever since.
Johnny signed a seven-year contract with the Blue Jackets in July 2022 after spending the first eight years of his professional career with the Calgary Flames.
“Growing up you look back at my childhood and you see this is what I want to do,” Johnny said in a tribute video. “I think when it’s all over, I want to be remembered as someone who just wanted to be around the rink and be around his friends, be around his family.”
Besides Jane and her husband Guy Gaudreauthe ceremony was attended by his wife Johnny Meredith Gaudreau and her two children with Johnny: daughter Noa, 2, and son Johnny, 7 months.
During the eulogy at the memorial service for Johnny and Matthew, Meredith revealed that she was pregnant with the couple’s third child.
Matthew is survived by his wife Madeline Gaudreauwho announced she was pregnant with the couple’s first child after Matthew’s death.
