Friday’s Letters page asked what the worst thing to do after Half-Life 3, as one reader warned of doom and gloom on PC.

Open the gate
I don’t think you even need rumors to say that the Nintendo Switch 2 will have good third-party support. Unless the publishers are really crazy (and I admit sometimes they are) they will flood the Switch 2 with as many ports and remasters as they can.
If we consider the average of the rumors so far, then it will be more powerful than the PlayStation 4. That will give us the potential for some excellent games that we will not expect on a Nintendo console. Elden Ring and Call of Duty, of course, but also Red Dead Redemption 2, GTA 5, Metal Gear Solid 5, Final Fantasy 7 Remake, all the Resident Evils, Cyberpunk 2077, and more.
What I’m really interested in though, is that Xbox and PlayStation exclusives will appear on Switch 2. Sony and Microsoft both seem to consider Nintendo hardware as neutral ground. We’ve had previous Xbox exclusives on Switch so why not Gears Of War, Forza Horizon, and Sea Of Thieves too?
Sony has Lego Horizon Adventures coming out this year on Switch, so what should stop Horizon Zero Dawn, or God Of War or Uncharted? It would have seemed crazy even just a year ago, but I think it’s clear that even though it’s not possible, it’s definitely a possibilty now.

The worst example
I wonder if anyone has written in defense of The Order: 1886, which I found to be an example of the best/worst game in terms of graphics. It looks good but it’s boring and ultra common to play and everything is meant to make it unique, like the story and that werewolf handled so very badly.
Even with the graphics I don’t see any redeeming features with the game and I’m not surprised Sony essentially cut ties with the developer. Sorry, they are closed but this is a major risk for any company that is bought by a large company. And it’s clear that nothing is going to stop anytime soon.

GC: Nothing so far.
An impossible sequel
So, if Half-Life 3 is actually made and released, what will be the highly anticipated sequel that no one is expecting after that? Given how much it squandered the last chance I don’t feel Shenmue 4 can really count, so what else is there?
I feel like Bloodborne 2 is the most anticipated? Or maybe Chrono Trigger 2 (I’m not counting Chrono Cross) or the new Castlevania? Lately, we have been working on sequels that were previously unimaginable; I guess because they are known IP and that’s what companies like when they spend money on it. I feel like I’m forgetting the obvious, what do other people think?

Failed to rise
If they didn’t keep killing people for no reason I would find this Warner Bros. execs are extremely funny. They had a big hit with Hogwarts Legacy and what was the response? Not to create the same, but the opposite. You really have to wonder how this guy got that job. It seems like everyone is afraid to tell the big boss they’re barking up the wrong tree, but who wants to push that angle?
I hope Warner decides to let the developers make a single-player game but it seems too optimistic to me. We’ll know when we find out what Rocksteady’s next game is, I guess. But at this point, anyone with an appetite for a new Batman: Arkham game? I feel like that well has been poisoned now, especially with upcoming VR games.
Grackle
Single idea
Does anyone else wish Bungie made a spin-off from Destiny 2, one that tells a proper story that you can follow and is more diverse? In the early days, when I didn’t quite understand how the game of life service paid for itself, I was an obvious idea and bound to happen, but of course never.
It’s the same for Overwatch, which I also assume will happen. He thought he did, but, as we now know, he never did. I’m not sure why, because multiplayer games aren’t good for story and I’ll never have a good single player maybe bring people to the main game. It seems a shame to me.
Tim Rogers
complete apocalypse
So, with all the doom and gloom between sibling gaming consoles (thinking about ‘Why am I selling X or Y console’ Reader’s Feature), plus the odd person thinking of switching to PC, I just thought I’d throw it away. in a bit of PC doom-mongering.
For anyone considering PC gaming, there are a few things to be aware of.
1). Intel has really dropped the clanger with the latest chipsets (13th and 14th gen processors). There are many reports of processors just crashing – mainly (but not exclusively) high-end processors, but it can affect any CPU that draws more than 65watts (so…everything?). Nvidia is working on a fix, but there is no recall and who knows if it will work?
2) Nvidia still rules the roost when it comes to GPUs, but since the launch of the RTX architecture there have been two noticeable trends. First, generation prices take a big leap every time – especially the top-mid and high-end cards are more expensive than they used to be (although they are very powerful). Secondly (and for me this is a potential dealbreaker) they are now stingy on VRAM. Modern games require a lot of VRAM but the most accessible Nvidia cards only have 8GB. This is just not enough for future proofing, especially if you use over 1080p / use an ultra-wide monitor, like me.
AMD can stack the card with a lot of VRAM but, frankly, losing DLSS is a huge sacrifice. I have no idea what I will do when I upgrade next.
Anyway, just wanted our console brethren to know that not all is rosy in the PC world.
Whatever you play, whatever you play, have fun!
The man stayed
Not enough time
As a fan of Dead Space, I bought and played The Callisto Protocol and I can’t imagine how things will improve with three additional months of development. I don’t care how many extra bosses the game has, it’s boring, repetitive, and just flat out not fun.
Nothing original and nothing scary. Besides the good graphics, almost everything can go wrong. It is still not terrible, because it is well put together, but it is completely uninteresting and forgotten. Biggest gaming disappointment in a long time.

youth appeal
When thinking about how to have a PlayStation 5 in the living room and in the playroom, without throwing away the old console, I discovered that the PlayStation 5 remote app is available on some Android TVs. So the question is why are they not shouting about this great feature. I was wondering if anyone has experience with this. I’m streaming to my PS4 Pro and it works great, but I want to sell it and you can use the DualSense controller with the app.
Meanwhile, where is the game? Still playing Gran Turismo 7 in the main, but some nice free treats such as Dave The Diver have made it a little more used recently.
I’m just relieved that after the eight-year-old has been eating Fortnite for eight or 10 months, after watching me play Zelda a few nights ago (still trying to finish it, I have two children and really don’t game like I want) suddenly started trying two Switch and PlayStation 5 games.
Current favorites are Mario Kart (I mean it obviously), Spider-Man, Riders Republic (anyone find Ubisoft’s child management impenetrable? Epic isn’t great but that’s another level), Splatoon 3, and he wants to play Zelda. . Fortnite has taken a definite back seat, which is a relief because I managed to beat him in Mario Kart after almost 30 years of dedication, while my Fortnite skills are bad.
He also really likes Excitebike 64, I never remember it being so hard!
My point, it’s good to see that perhaps the game service life has a place but not to the exclusion of a good game, well done! There is hope!
Packed a lot in there… so the magic of Inbox for Switch 2 launched with F-Zero GX 4K DX Edition… and I love it on my GameCube!

Currently playing: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom, Gran Turismo 7, Balataro, and Mario Kart 8
Inbox well-rans
Are you still re-designing Fallout London or is it not happening anymore? I’m really interested to hear your thoughts on this, as always.

GC: It was very bug when we last played, we don’t want to criticize only about that.
Now that you say it, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor as a Switch 2 launch game seems almost guaranteed. I bet that is exactly the game EA practices for the console, why else will they publish the last gen version to be the last?
