Wednesday’s letters page was impressed by the two latest Nintendo Direct events, as one reader expected Call of duty: Black Ops 6.

40 years old, male and female
I had a bit of a meltdown when I heard that Tetris is 40 years old, because that seems impossible. But then I remember being in the Soviet Union for years before it was made into Game Boy, etc. Still, the game is legendary and I would be interested in the new compilation/celebration chapter.
Sometimes we talk about the perfect game but in my opinion, Tetris is one of them. You might say that it would be easier if the game was simple, but the proof is still being released and remade today with the same gameplay and graphics as the original.
I don’t think there is another game released at the moment that can say the same in 40 years. In my opinion, this is the best video game ever made.

I know the second Capcom’s new fighting game collection is announced that GC will be over the moon about the return of the Power Stone. I have to admit that I loved it back in the Dreamcast days too, but I’m a little nervous to play it again now, because it’s a 3D game and they don’t tend to age too well, even if the camera is pulled. out quite far.
Of course, I hope this is a prelude to a new game, but I think the truth is that probably Capcom only sees it as a filler to justify another low cost / high profit compilation. But I’m not complaining, because this is what I’ve wanted for a long time. Capcom could do no wrong this time and instead went for a remaster.

Be careful what you wish for
I’m glad to see that the Silent Hill 2 remake has been so good and I want Konami to return to the game industry, but they should do something other than remakes and remasters. Do we need a Metal Gear Solid 3 remake? And the compilation of DS Castlevania games is completely scraping the barrel. Just make a new game!
I guess that’s a double edged sword given how the current Silent Hill games have turned out, but everything has been very low budget so far. They should bite the bullet and make a big budget Castlevania or Contra, or something like that. I kept hoping that they would build it, but it never happened.

Star Wars ’77
Interesting to see that Star Wars Outlaws reviews have been varied, more than average for a big name game. Unlike usual, I don’t see much of a pattern, other than whether the reviewer likes Star Wars or not, which GC makes clear in his review but many others don’t.
I was a bit surprised, because it seems like the game is doing something different for Ubisoft’s open world. Basically it seems to be a sci-fi Assassin’s Creed and it constantly gets high reviews even though I myself lost interest years ago, because it’s all the same and too much.
Therefore, I will be interested to see what the score of Assassin’s Creed Shadows is, because it must be like the old one and I can guarantee that the combat will not be as good as Ghost Of Tsushima, and certainly not Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
Star Wars Outlaws has a 77 on Metacritic and looks pretty good to me, in terms of what I’ll expect in sales. As you may have read, Ubisoft games are always cheap on Black Friday and I doubt this will be any different.

GC: 77 seems like a good point to score for us.
Call you back
I hate to be the one to say it, but I think this year’s Call of Duty is going to be great. I know it’s not modern like the game, and I’m definitely not going anywhere at the end of the year, but Black Ops 6 has looked good in everything I’ve seen so far.
The single player looks like it’s going back to the dopey arcade style action of the original Modern Warfare and Black Ops games, and I prefer the boring fake seriousness of the rebooted series. And now the multiplayer looks good too.
There’s only so much you can do with Call Of Duty Multiplayer, before it becomes something else, but I haven’t found any fault with it so far. I’m still not sure Zombies have changed much but maybe I’m wrong. I almost certainly will find out by buying the game at launch though, and that’s when I’ve said it.

Unique selling point
With the rumored PS5 Pro coming, I’m all wondering how Sony will deliver on the base PS5.
PS4 Pro has been upscaled to 4K for people to take advantage of the new 4K TV. I remember Digital Foundry was impressed with Horizon Zero Dawn running on it. I picked up a PS4 Pro with Horizon Zero Dawn on the game’s release day.
I wonder if Sony will go with another Unreal Engine 5 demo, like before the release of the PlayStation 5. Maybe whip out the PS5 Pro enhanced version of Black Myth: Wukong. Even if it’s not Unreal Engine 5, it might be the PS5 Pro version of Cyberpunk 2077 that’s ray-traced.
There are some great looking games out there that work.
I’m quite intrigued by the thing and If the beefed-up GPU and ray-tracing, together with Sony’s version of DLSS, will make a noticeable difference.

A natural ending
I don’t care how good the graphics are in the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake, I just don’t see the point in making a Metal Gear game without Hideo Kojima. Even the Metal Gear Solid 1 remake, when it was around, was garbage, so I don’t see this one being much different.
Him leaving is the perfect reason to end the franchise there, but then again we see that no one can die or have a natural end. Everything should go on forever and even if it doesn’t sell, it will still be dragged out of the grave later.

Frenemies for life
It’s weird to me how Nintendo is killing it now. This is the final year for the Switch as a major console, but every Directs has been good, even this week’s indies and third parties – which I don’t think will be enough to talk about. .
I find GC’s point about EA and Sega suddenly liking Nintendo to be interesting, but then I don’t have much involvement with the Switch and if they want to get in on the ground floor with the Switch 2, that’s where they should start. making overtures now.
I don’t believe that EA will make anything interesting for the Switch 2 (or anything else) but I wonder what Sega can think of, since they are planning to bring back a lot of old franchises now.
Maybe the reason we haven’t heard about them in a while is a sign that they’re mainly targeting the Switch 2? I’m one of those people who would be very happy if Nintendo bought Sega, but I’d much rather see them both work together.
Hopefully that will continue on the Switch 2 and hopefully it won’t just mean more Yakuza ports, although I’m sure that’s still a part.

The Power Stone is back, baby! I expect Capcom to drop it and never mention it again for another 18 years. (Try some reverse psychology here.)

A reader asked what the next holy grail is after Half-Life 3. Well, I say it’s Hollow Knight: Silksong. Now there’s a real chance Half-Life 3 comes out first, which is crazy.
