F1 heads to the original ‘night race’ as the Marina Bay Street Circuit hosts the Singapore Grand Prix and round 18 of the 2024 season.
McLaren’s Oscar Piastri won the enthralling Azerbaijan Grand Prix last time out, with the McLaren star producing one of the drives of the year to beat Charles Leclerc, with George Russell taking third after the last accident between Carlos Sainz and Sergio Perez.
Lando Norris, despite starting 15th, finished ahead of Max Verstappen in fourth to cut the Dutchman’s lead in the world championship to 59 points with seven races – and three sprint races – remaining.
However, it was a difficult weekend for Lewis Hamilton, who finished ninth after starting from the pit-lane. Last year in Singapore, Sainz claimed a famous victory for Ferrari in the 2023 race where a Red Bull car had not won.

Lewis Hamilton calls out FIA chief for ‘racial element’ over comments about swearing and rappers
Lewis Hamilton has called out FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem for comments that refer to the rapper when discussing swearing broadcasts at Formula One races – saying they have a “racial element”.
Ben Sulayem, head of F1’s governing body, said he had asked Formula 1 to limit the amount of swearing – usually from drivers over team radio – in TV coverage of races. Swear words are now removed before airing.
The 62-year-old Emirati executive said: “We have to distinguish between sport – motorsport – and rap music. We’re not rappers, you know. He says the F word several times a minute? We’re not in. It’s him and us (us) .”

NEW: Max Verstappen receives strange punishment after swearing at F1 press conference
Max Verstappen has been told to “do some work in the public interest” in a strange decision by the stewards after taking the oath during Thursday’s FIA press conference in Singapore.
The Red Bull driver, who leads this year’s world championship by 59 points to Lando Norris, is winless in seven races and struggled last week in Azerbaijan.
When asked about the car in Baku, Verstappen replied that he knew “the car is f*****” and was warned about his language by the moderator.
After being called to see the flight attendants on Friday, with a meeting that lasted about 15 minutes, the decision that the flight attendants made was “obligation to complete some public work.”

Christian Horner reveals when Red Bull’s F1 decline began – and it wasn’t this year
Horner insisted that seven races out of the last 22 years saw Red Bull make the first mistake, but the team didn’t take it too seriously “because Max kept winning.”
“We traced the development history back and it turned out that the first mistake we made was the underbody upgrade in 2023 in Barcelona,” Horner told German outlet Auto Motor und Sport.
