Young Sheldonhis spinoff Georgie and Mandy’s First Wedding is not afraid to address the controversial 12-year age gap between the fictional on-screen couple.
George (Montana Jordan) became a fan favorite after The Big Bang Theory supplemented by a prequel about Sheldon’s (Iain Armitage) time as a child prodigy growing up in Texas. Brother Sheldon grows up in front of the audience and finds love in a surprising place with Mandy (Emily Osment).
Their cute on-screen meeting was much anticipated as Georgie was only 17 but lied that she was 21 when they first met. Mandy, meanwhile, was 29 but pretended to be 25. When the truth came out, Georgie and Mandy were expecting their first child and then welcomed daughter Cece.
Georgie and Mandy’s story continues on Georgie and Mandy’s First Wedding – but that doesn’t mean it’s all smooth sailing. In fact, the CBS series has gone out of its way to shine a light on Georgie and Mandy’s significant age gap and the problems it poses in their relationship.
“It was interesting because (Mandy’s mother) Audrey (was) in the audience. A lot of fans were like, ‘What the hell? He’s 10 years younger than her. This is wrong,'” Rachel Bay Jones exclusively against Us Weekly in October 2024. “Audrey is someone who agrees that this is wrong and that this should not happen.”
Jordan, however, found the conversation around Georgie’s age helpful.
“It gives Georgie somewhere to go,” he said us the same month. “In this new show, Georgie can finally show that he’s not this dumb kid. He really has brains in him. And in Young Sheldon I’m sure he’s been overlooked. Maybe he’s the tire king as a way to show and prove that he’s not a kid that’s dumb (but mature). He’s got some brains in him.

Meeting in the Middle
Georgie and Mandy realize in the fourth episode of the show that they are at different places in their lives. This leads to Mandy making a new friend her age – whose son is one year younger than Georgie.
“No (I didn’t graduate). I dropped out of junior high school. Otherwise we wouldn’t have met,” Georgie told Mandy, who replied, “Because you’re already in the classroom.”
Mandy then tried to defend her marriage by calling Georgie “too mature” for her age. “Most days, I don’t think about it,” she says before discussing her sex life. “He always brings a certain youthful energy to the party.”
Later in the episode, Audrey has fun at Mandy’s expense.
“Does your husband go out with his childhood friends? Does your husband go out with great friends? He’s at a rebellious age,” he joked. “Georgie has a great personality, but he’s younger than you. It’s always been a problem.
