“Indira Gandhi, who is the Prime Minister, is facing electoral defeat. Rahul Gandhi was defeated in Amethi. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will also be defeated because Congress has betrayed people. Gandhi has betrayed people in Wayanad,” said CPI leader Sathyan Mokeri
Veteran CPI leader Sathyan Mokeri, who is the Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidate for the Wayanad Lok Sabha by-election, believes that the Congress cannot take the seat.
“Indira Gandhi, who is the Prime Minister, is facing electoral defeat. Rahul Gandhi was defeated in Amethi. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will also be defeated because the Congress has betrayed people. The Gandhis have betrayed people in Wayanad,” Mokeri told News18.

Rahul Gandhi’s decision to retain the Raebareli seat in Uttar Pradesh and give up Wayanad, which he also won in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, forced a bypoll in this seat. Gandhi defeated CPI’s Annie Raja by 3,64,422 votes.
But Mokeri feels he has a chance. Armed with decades of political experience and having been a three-time MLA, Mokeri said his body politic proved that he would stand with the people of Wayanad, unlike Gandhi, who was not seen in the constituency after the elections.
Mokeri has represented the Nadapuram constituency in the Assembly elections (1987 to 2001) for three terms and is also a member of the state committee and vice-president of the All India Kisan Sabha.

WAYANAD’S VISION
He explained how Wayanad is a backward region where most of the people are farmers, tribals and plantation workers.
“We have marginalized people here who have not seen much development. I contested from Wayanad in 2014. I lost by only 20,000 votes. LDF raised the issue of development. The Congress candidate who won from here did nothing,” said Mokeri.
As part of his campaign, the Left candidate talked about the development brought by the LDF government in Kerala and how he would replicate the same in Wayanad. Another important part of the tone is that the Gandhis have betrayed the people of Wayanad.
“Gandhi has represented this area, but he has not done anything. People were trusted, but they were betrayed. Gandhi claimed during the campaign that he had made a mistake and he wanted to apologize to people. Now what has happened? When you won two seats, what was the first thing you did? He chose Raebareli. This is what the people of Wayanad will never forgive the Gandhis for,” said the candidate.
The LDF candidate, while attracting people, also talked about how the Congress has taken the seat and elected Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. “Actually he will not win because people have now seen the true colors of Gandhis,” he told News18.

Mokeri said that Wayanad has been suffering for decades due to wild animal attacks. Gandhi, who was elected for two terms, did nothing to solve this problem. Mokeri also discussed the floods and landslides in Wayanad that have caused huge loss of life and property in the region.
“Even the BJP at the Center did not give relief to the people. When the same thing happened in Andhra Pradesh and Bihar, the BJP at the Center gave them huge compensation. What about the people of Wayanad? Do they not have any rights? People know how I work, and believe in me. They know that I can make the change, so my victory is certain,” said a confident Mokeri.
