Ross Barton (Michael Parr) made his presence felt in Emmerdale on his return, angry with Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) for saying he was here.
The returnee returns on Monday (October 28), as he faces none other than the mysterious Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle) in a bareknuckle battle.
The ITV soap offers on Tuesday (October 29) the aftermath of when the war began. Ross, who has a reputation for taking part in such fights, dominated as Mack and Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) looked on, afraid for Billy.
But Mack, immediately distracted by the sight of Prophet Moses who was sitting on the seat next to him, kicked his father from the edge.
Terrified that a child would witness such violence, he intervened, took Moses in his arms and immediately left.
Ross was confused by that, lost the upper hand, which gave Billy many opportunities to deliver the knockout blow, with Ross falling to the floor, losing consciousness – and the match – as a result.
Billy is on cloud nine to take the win, but Jade (Twinnie-Lee Moore) isn’t too happy about it, knowing that Ross’ unexpected defeat will put him out of pocket.
Meanwhile, Mack tells Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) about Ross’s carelessness in allowing Moses to join the fight. Charity is reeling and she soon has the opportunity to speak her piece when Ross arrives at Jacob’s Fold.
However, instead of dealing with the problem at hand, Ross continues to fight Mack, getting closer to him.
A macho showdown ensued, much to Charity’s dismay, as Ross wound Mack up over Rueben, claiming that he was just ‘playing dad’ where Moses was concerned.
Charity supports Mack, asking what kind of father takes his son to watch him fight. As the situation escalates, Ross punches Mack in the stomach and holds him against the sofa so he can’t get up again. Charity reeled, ordered her ex out of her house together.
After regaining his breath, Mack and Charity discuss Ross’s return, with the former mainstay once again appearing to be very tense between the pair.
Charity’s comments about Moses as her son hurt Mack and he storms off to the Woolpack, where he and Ross argue again, with Mary Goskirk (Louise Jameson) intervening, calling out the pair for exhibiting toxic masculinity.
A third fight ensues between the two, this time outside Jacob’s Fold, with Ross repeating what Mack thinks, using hurtful and poisonous language, saying that he is not a ‘real man’.
Mack keeps his cool stating that no one wants Ross to stay. Ross, however, made it pretty clear that he wasn’t going anywhere, happily telling Mack that he was going to ‘throw a grenade’ into his perfect little life.
Oh my goodness.
It seems that the new competition has become too much. The question is: who will come out on top?
