As Delhi continues to grapple with its water crisis, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has appealed to INDIA’s opposition bloc to support minister Atishi as he is poised to start an indefinite fast from today for the national capital to get its “rightful share”. water”. AAP MP Sanjay Singh said, “I appeal to all parties from INDIA connection to support Atishi and AAP in this fight.
Targeting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Singh said, “In Delhi, the water crisis is being sponsored by the BJP. Despite repeated requests, the BJP government in Haryana has not released the rightful share of water to Delhi. By withdrawing the water share of 3 crore people in Delhi , the BJP government has sinned.
Speaking to News 18, Singh said that AAP will reach out to all sides of INDIA connection for support. AAP minister Saurabh Bhardwaj told News 18, “We expect our alliance partners to support us.”
The opposition BJP has rejected AAP’s claims and, instead, is leading a sustained campaign in the national capital accusing the ruling party of failing to provide water and doing ‘Dhikkar padayatras‘for ‘your wish’ protests for daily press conferences. BJP State President Virendra Sachdeva, MoS Harsh Malhotra, MP Manoj Tiwari, Ramvir Bidhuri, Bansuri Swaraj, Yogendra Chandolia trained their guns on Atishi and the Delhi government. Virendra Sachdeva said, “Atishi lied. The Haryana government supplied water more than the stipulated limit. The Delhi government lied and shamed the people of Delhi. Sachdeva went on to explain the loss of Rs 73,000 crore incurred by the Delhi Jal Board.
Atishi, the only woman in the AAP Delhi cabinet with the maximum portfolio, on June 19, wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking for his last intervention to solve the acute water crisis in Delhi which failed, she will continue indefinitely. Fast from June 21. The minister said, “Delhi’s total water supply is 1050 MGD, with 613 MGD sourced from Haryana. During the last two weeks, this supply has been greatly reduced, with only 513 MGD available on June 18. This reduction of 100 MGD means 28 lakh people do not get adequate water supply.
In the backfoot on the issue that is at the core of AAP’s strong showing in the Delhi Assembly election, and has exhausted all other options, AAP decided to return to its traditional tools quickly indefinite. Explaining his stance, Atishi said, “I can’t bear the pain of Delhiites anymore.”
Congress Protest Against AAP
Interestingly, although AAP and Congress are part of INDIA’s gathbandhan, state units of Congress, like BJP, are also taking to the streets and protesting against the AAP government as the acute water crisis in the capital deepens. Led by newly appointed chief Devendra Yadav, the party organized ‘dress up‘ protest against AAP charging it with ‘incompetence’ in dealing with the acute water crisis. The Delhi Congress chief has also written a letter to Delhi LG Vinai Saxena claiming that due to the clash between the ruling party (AAP) and the tanker mafia, there is theft of water in Delhi. Yadav also demanded action against those responsible for the same.
When asked about AAP MP Sanjay Singh’s appeal, Devendra Yadav made it clear that the party would support non-political efforts to ensure water to Delhiites, but did not support Atishi’s quick protest. Yadav told News 18, “The point is to provide water to the people, we remain united. The only condition is that there is no politics in providing water to the people of Delhi. We are strongly against politics drama which we have seen. Serious efforts should be made in advance especially on the issue of 58% percent leakage. An action plan should be created. He should call for an all-party meeting.
“We do not support politics drama like Anshan. As far as providing water is concerned, we can support anyone in a non-political way,” Yadav added.
Also, AAP minister Gopal Rai’s statement after Lok Sabha Polls 2024 suggests that the INDIA gathbandhan, which is a part of AAP, only for General elections, may not suit AAP as it seeks support for a new crisis. faced with mainly from Congress.
After a meeting with AAP MPs, the minister said, “It has been clear from the beginning that this alliance is for the Lok Sabha elections. We have fought this election with honesty. As far as the Vidhan Sabha elections in Delhi are concerned, there is no gathbandhan across the country. AAP will fight the election was held jointly with the citizens of Delhi.
AAP and Congress failed to win a single seat in Delhi despite their alliance and AAP was quick to explain that the alliance was for the Lok Sabha elections. The big question is whether the Congress will support AAP on this issue outside and inside Parliament when the 18th Lok Sabha will begin on June 24.
However, some alliance partners may support, if not AAP, then the cause of Delhiites gets enough water.
CPI General Secretary D Raja told News 18, “As of now, officially no one has approached us. We are aware of the water crisis. Delhi being the national capital, the union government should take some steps to coordinate between Delhi and Haryana and the adjoining states to solve it. the current crisis. There is a heat wave, and if the water shortage continues, it will cause suffering for the common people. There should be coordination between the governments.
Raja added, this is not the time to blame each other but to coordinate and find a solution to the problem. A veteran CPI leader said, “Definitely this will be an issue, when the Parliament session is active.”
