Jake Paul will not fight Daniel Dubois for the world heavyweight title, cruiserweight contender Viddal Riley has revealed Sky Sports.
With a social media post, Youtuber Paul fueled speculation that IBF world heavyweight champion Dubois was calling him for a title fight.
Paul just won a freak fight with 58-year-old Mike Tyson, which was approved as a professional fight. But the Youtuber has no place in the IBF heavyweight rankings and the prospect of him challenging Dubois, even if he wanted to, is remote.
“As long as we’re breathing, it’s not going to happen,” Viddal Riley said Sky Sports.
“People just need to stop giving Jake so much fuel. People give him so much fuel, they don’t realize that’s what keeps him going. The best way to get rid of him is to isolate him.”
Riley built his own following on social media while training Youtuber KSI, but is also a British cruiserweight champion and high-level amateur boxer. He had known Dubois since he was eight years old and defeated him in an amateur fight when he was younger.
“Everybody wants attention, you see 65 million people tune in to see (Paul) fight Mike Tyson, (they think) I can do 65 million views. I got it. But at the same time, we’re all doing what we do .have spent years and made a living doing what you’ve done, so you don’t want to let your hype and chase you down needlessly.
It certainly wasn’t necessary for Dubois, who defeated former champion Anthony Joshua in a high-profile title fight at Wembley Stadium.
“This guy is fighting in front of 90,000 at Wembley, which gets the highest level of what you can in a traditional game. It’s all about a little attention though,” Riley said.
“You don’t pay attention to people’s movements or take them seriously because you know they’re just trying to get air time.”
He was inspired by Dubois’ achievements. “People are saying they quit,” Riley said.
“He just showed perseverance. He just showed that the dog doesn’t think he has it, he has it. It was a proud moment for him and I could see it from the beginning. You just have to think: ‘Now it’s my turn.’
“I need this. I can do this. I’m more than capable of doing this. I’m proud to see them do it and there’s nothing I can do on my own.”
Riley returned to action on December 14, living in Sky Sports. “I haven’t been in the ring since March, after breaking three ribs I had to take some time out, recover,” he explained.
“The division has changed a lot. I didn’t get a chance to build on the momentum from my biggest win professionally so far. We want to have a big 2025.
“We want the main title. If the main title crossover with revenge matches, then I’m here for it. We want to pick up the British title, the Commonwealth title, that’s the main priority.”
He can compete with Isaac Chamberlain. “I think it’s a fight that people still want,” Riley said. “A fight with Isaac, it aligns, it makes sense. If that can cross the line, people will definitely be there to treat. Make it official and be able to top up at the end and forths we already have. , I think this is a great fight.”
He wants to continue building the rankings and eventually fight for his own world championship.
“For me, my mission is to be a world champion, to win a world title,” Riley said, “and if Jake is still lurking, I’m going to defend him.”
