After the final season 21 of The Bachelorette done with Jen Tran‘s broken engagement, fans are looking for the next 20 couples Charity Lawson and Dotun Olubeko is a spinoff that rules the love story. And while the two were still going strong, they weren’t rushing down the aisle.
“We’ve taken a break and I think it’s good to announce it. I feel like people keep asking, ‘How are the wedding plans? Or where are we?'” Charity, 28, told Us Weekly during an exclusive interview with Cat Izzo. “For me, I got into this place where I felt constant pressure, like, I have to check every month or every week. And it got to the point where I was like, ‘I don’t want to do that right now.’ I’m also just easing into life and getting back to normal. Obviously, we’re still getting married, taking a beat.
Charity added that Dotun, 30, “is very vocal, which I love.” She noted that her fiancé was focused on a fun reception — and a cake.
“It’s taste and aesthetics (that care about), but I will definitely have more to say about aesthetics,” he explained. “But the taste, that’s the only thing they tell people. They’re like, ‘Me and Charity, we know the taste of cake.’ … I like that he’s involved and that he wants to talk. It’s fun for me and for both of us.
Charity and Dotun participate in season 20 of The Bachelorettewhich aired in the summer of 2023. That fall, Charity competed Dance With The Stars — which is known to test some Bachelor Nation couples. this season, Joey Graziadeiwho is not engaged Kelsey Anderson in the season 28 of Scholarand newly single Jenn will be in the ballroom.
“(I would say) just have fun. I wish I could have had more fun than I did,” Charity said. us. “It started very fun, but when you get gritty, it becomes very difficult. It’s a lot on the body. Kat knows – it’s very emotional for me (and) bad mentally. So just take care of yourself in the best way, but, like, don’t forget if it’s a competition event. And I definitely feel like, ‘It’s okay. I’m here to have the chance of a lifetime.’ “
Kat noted that she was expecting Jenn – who was revealed in the finale to have been blindsided by picking the last rose Devin Strader when he ended his engagement — using the show as motivation “to prove to myself what I’m worth (and) capable of.”
“Because if you can get through and after (separation), you can do anything,” he said. “(And) I like revenge in my own way. I’ll be like, ‘Look what I lost!'”
Joey, meanwhile, will have Kelsey’s support — and if Kelsey needs help, she can call Dotun.
“Many. Obviously, Kelsey knows Dotun. He can get closer,” said Charity. “For Dotun, he’s working, so I think he can stay busy too. It’s like we both have full-time jobs and then we make the most of the little time that we have to have a date night and try to fit that in. To be honest with Kelsey, like, just try to find those moments to connect with Joey as much as possible. (And) I would just tell him not to read too much. Be a supportive partner.”
Kat added: “I mean, Dotun is great. He texts all of us, like, even the family ’cause he’s close to my mom. (He’s made) a video for her for the finale.
While Joey and Jenn take over the ballroom, Charity and Kat get ready to start their new podcast, “Tap In.”
