Real Housewives of Dubai star Caroline Stanbury candid about the struggles of trying to have a baby at 48.
Caroline “has not decided” whether she wants to try and get pregnant or use other methods, such as surrogacy, to have children with her husband, Sergio Carrillowho got married in December 2021.
“My doctor thinks I can carry one more child … and I also feel the healthiest,” the Bravo star wrote in an essay for Today.com published on Friday, June 7. “(But) moving forward with having another baby was a difficult decision at my age.”
Caroline shares her daughter Yasmine, 18, and twins Zack and Aaron, 14, with her ex-husband Cem Habib. She knows Sergio, 29, will be a “good father”, adding: “He deserves to be a father. And it can be fun! Maybe I’m better ready to go back to the trenches now. I know exactly what to expect, so I won’t be overwhelmed by everything .
As Caroline and Sergio explore all options, she reveals that she battled preeclampsia, a complication that causes persistent high blood pressure, during her last pregnancy.
“I had preeclampsia with all my children, and I was very ill with the twins,” Caroline explained. “My children are against me carrying the baby because of the health risks for me.”
Caroline and Sergio began the IVF process in 2022 and now have one embryo, which the reality star calls “a baby boy on ice.”
“Knowing that there is one embryo is exciting, but also worrying for Sergio,” Caroline wrote. “She thinks she wants to do another round of IVF in January next year and try for another embryo or two.”
Caroline advises Sergio to use an egg donor if another round of IVF is unsuccessful, explaining: “It’s a good option for a lot of people – but it’s not something Sergio would consider. He wants our baby to be both of us.
In addition to the ongoing conversation about IVF, Caroline revealed that she is “looking for a surrogate.”
“I never thought I’d be in the position when I read about how to find another woman to carry my baby, and I tried to figure out what that would look like,” Caroline said. “What if he wants to live in another country? What if Sergio wants to rub his belly? There are a million questions that (I) don’t have answers for right now.
It is not lost on Caroline that she will direct her life to focus on her new baby while raising teenagers.
“Having a baby now means that when Yasmine goes to university, I will go and see diapers again,” Caroline laughed, adding that she finally wants to have a positive impact on others, “One thing Sergio and I have given everyone hope. I share women who can move on and start a new life – maybe literally – at 48.
