Get ready for hyper-realistic guns that create firepower, explosives that launch enemies like rag dolls, and deadly kills from above.
Well, a new Call of Duty game is approaching, kicking off a year-long multiplayer battle.
It’s called Black Ops 6 and here’s what you need to know, including the upcoming release date and the gameplay it’ll be apart of.
The game is really big, weighing in at 300GB
Activision
Officially confirmed: Black Ops 6 will launch on October 25, on PlayStation, Xbox and PC. Additionally, it will be the first game in the series to launch on Xbox Game Pass, as well (although Modern Warfare 3 is technically the first CoD game to be added to the subscription service).
It’s also the first new entry in the series to come out since Microsoft acquired COD developer Activision Blizzard.
When can you preload Black Ops 6?
You will be able to preload Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 from October 21st at 4pm UK time. It’s for PC gamers, Xbox owners, PlayStation 5 a lot.
Set aside at least 102GB to install on your PC.
How big is the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 download?
We know so far that the preinstall on PC takes 102GB, and this figure is repeated in the spec recommendation. This is cheaper than previous Call of Duty epics, because the multiplayer Warzone content has been separated to save our SSD.
The Xbox store suggests that it is 83.05 GB download, while the X PlayStation account The size of the campaign alone claims 37.4GB on the PlayStation 5. We are not close to the size of 300GB reported earlier in 2024. But when you add additional content modules not included in this basic download, we can still see higher numbers.
It is set in the Gulf War
While the storyline is still under wraps, we do know the premise. This Black Ops game is a direct sequel to Black Ops II and Black Ops: Cold War, and takes place in the 1990s, during the Gulf War.
It also features some returning characters. There is Frank Wood, who is now wheelchair-bound after the events of the last game, and Russell Adler, who seems to kick off the game when he reappears after having disappeared.

He brought unpleasant news. Apparently, the CIA has been hacked, and no one can be trusted: anyone who opposes these shadowy power players will be called a traitor and kicked out.
Players will step into the boots of rookie Troy Marshall and CIA handler Jane Harrow, who (along with Adler, and some other have-a-go-heroes) must go off-grid to save the world, recruit a team. , gather resources and set off to investigate what’s going on.
The mission design in Black Ops 6 looks like fun. In one, the team must sneak into Bill Clinton’s fundraising gala in order to infiltrate the CIA’s black site underneath (and yes, before you ask, familiar faces from the era will also appear, including George Bush, Margaret Thatcher and Saddam. Hussein) .
It seems like the level will be a mix between linear and open-world, which Modern Warfare III gave us a taste (although they did not manage enough to pull it off).
With locations including the US, the deserts of Iraq (apparently the biggest map the maker has ever created) and even the steppes of Russia, there will be a fun mix of terrain to test your weapons and tactics on.
Tactics are set to play a bigger role this time around. Treyarch (the game producer, a subdivision of Activision Blizzard) has indicated that there will be several ways to complete the mission this time, including barter, negotiation and using the good old art of conversation (in addition to taking the living daylights out of the enemy, of course).
There’s also something called a Safehouse: basically, an abandoned KGB base turned into a shelter on the coast, where you can regroup between missions, talk to your allies and decide what to do next. And, of course, reveal the secrets of the building.
One of the funnest bits of a Call of Duty game. Of course, since it’s set in the Nineties, the game will feature period-appropriate weaponry – and since the team is operating undercover, it’s likely to include some DIY modifications.
Additionally, for the first time, the game will also feature a dedicated melee slot for weapons. In the past, there were only two (with the exception of Modern Warfare III, which gave players an extra pistol) but now there’s a third.
Gunsmith got some modifications
Experienced CoD players spend a lot of time playing around with weapons in Gunsmith, but it can be frustrating to change parts, only to see your gun’s stats hit.
To make life easier, Treyarch said that each new attachment in BO6 will, for the most part, boost the weapon instead of nerfing it. Furthermore, you don’t need to worry about various add-ons that interfere with certain improvements, such as targeting the viewing speed.
Now, each attachment has a positive and positive purpose – for example, the rear grip will constantly improve handling, with some grips even increasing the speed of fire while on the go.

To further streamline Gunsmith, almost all optics will be shared on all weapons in the weapon class. Unlock the red dot sight for the submachine gun (SMG), and you will be able to use it for other SMGs in the same category. All other attachments will remain unique to the assigned weapon, however.
There are some new features
The biggest one is the new ‘Omnimovement’ system, which will come into play during Multiplayer – and which the developers promise will change the way the game works for the better.
Activision
What this means is that players will be allowed to sprint, move and slide in any direction they like, including backwards – where before you could only do it in a straight line, now you can dive around to get out of the line of fire. And even if the player is vulnerable, the new option will allow him to slowly turn from a lying position.
Plus, there’s extra freedom in the form of Treyarch’s new intelligent control system. This includes automatic cloaking, which allows players to overcome obstacles without pressing a button, or paint a small hole without pressing X (it’s an automatic crouch setting). Finally, you can pick up a human shield for the first time. Or take it through the door.
Multiplayer is bigger and better
Activision
Don’t worry, fellow fans; there’s something for you here too. Multiplayer is its own beast, and features 16 maps at launch, including 12 6v6 maps, and four Strike maps, which can be customized for either 2v2 or 6v6 play modes. Instead, they will be based on maps from the series’ campaign.
There are also three classes to choose your soldiers from: Enforcers (who specialize in hunting and killing people), Recons (who gather intel on enemy movements) and Strategists (who disrupt enemy targets or disrupt them).
You cannot take MW3 items with you
Unfortunately, when Black Ops 6 launches, you won’t be able to play alongside the countless skins and special weapons you’ve purchased in MW3.
Treyarch says it’s treating the upcoming game like a fresh start, with new weapons, carriers, and calling cards on offer.
Not only will your neon MW3 loot look out of place next to your old school guns, but it will probably make the whole experience a little more bloated. This is the last thing CoD needs, as it might confuse newbies.
Of course, some players will love the idea of a basic Black Ops. Getting killed by the killer Santa in MW3, with a gun that turns the corpse into a blunt, felt like you’re being trolled.
Meanwhile, others can take solace in the fact that MW3 items will still be available in Warzone, along with the latest Black Ops 6 content.
The Prestige System is back
Where do you go when you’ve completed the campaign, won countless multiplayer matches, and killed a few battalion players? Well, you jump to Prestige.
The classic progression system is back, giving players a special reward for trying to reset rank and unlock gear when they reach level 55. While it’s not mandatory, it’s satisfying to see the level bar inch forward instead of staying static. Plus, you’ll have bragging rights over others with exclusive Prestige icons, carrier skins, and icons.
Those who played the beta in September got a head start, with the option to reach the maximum level of 30.
Completing all ten Prestige ranks will promote you to Prestige Master, with 1,000 levels to complete, as well as additional rewards. The real learning never ends.
Yes, there will be zombies
The new game will see the return of Call of Duty’s beloved Zombies mode. This will be its own mini-campaign, picking up after the events of the Cold War, in a storyline dubbed Dark Aether.
There will be two maps for players to go through: Liberty Falls (a small American town) and Terminus, an island that is also a prison, Alcatraz style. And, you can expect a choice of four main characters to play as: Pick a fighter and get slaying.
