Boeing there sweetened the contract offer and said it was the “best and final” proposal for its more than 30,000 machinists as the strike, which has stopped most of the giant’s aerospace aircraft production, entered the second week.
The new offer raises salaries, restores annual bonuses and increases bonuses that will be given upon contract ratification, among other changes, Boeing said on its website.
Boeing’s new offer would raise public wages by 30% over four years, up from the previously proposed 25%. It also doubled the ratification bonus to $6,000 and reinstated the annual bonus.
The union, the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, did not immediately comment on the offer. Boeing said the offer is subject to ratification by Friday at 11:59 pm PT.
The new offer is Boeing’s latest attempt to reach a deal with machinists and end a costly strike, the union’s first strike since 2008. Machinists on the picket line in Renton, Washington, told CNBC last week that they rejected their first contract with pay. the higher. because they want wages to keep up with the sharp increase in the cost of living in the Seattle area.
