Blue Blood‘ The final episode is approaching, after more than ten years of air.
With the finale on the horizon, the longtime drama showrunner, Kevin Wadeshared his insight on how he and his colleagues wrapped up the event.
“I’ve been thinking about it, along with my friends,” Wade, 70, said TVLine in an interview published Thursday, September 5.
Wade added that he did his homework before making the finale, taking cues from some of the classic shows in TV history.
“I’m rewatching the series finale of a great show, going back to it M*A*S*H and cheering and Mary Tyler Mooreand of course Sopranos..,” he told the outlet. “I watch a lot of the same thing, and what they have in common is, if I boil it, they do a good show, and then in the last few minutes, they do a little pivot, ‘This is also the last show.’
Remaining episodes from Blue Blood‘ season 14 will begin again on Friday, October 18.
Blue Blood Fans were devastated in November 2023 when the president of CBS Entertainment Amy Reisenbach and president of CBS Studios David Stapf announced that the show would end after season 14.
“Blue Blood will forever be a beloved part of CBS’ legacy. It ruled Friday night with unprecedented dominance since its premiere and became the pillar of a winning lineup with an incredible fan base,” the couple said in a joint statement. “We will always be grateful to the legendary Leonard Goldberg for developing this signature series and for the amazing cast led by Tom Selekwhich America embraced as family and watched as a welcomed guest at the Reagan dinner table.
Just months later, lead actor Tom Selleck admitted that he still hopes the network will change its mind about pulling the plug.
“I’m going to continue to think that CBS is going to figure it out,” Selleck, 79, said in an interview with CBS News in May. “We’re the third-highest scripted show in all of broadcast. We won the night. All the cast want to come back. And I can tell you this, we’re not sliding off the cliff. We’re doing a great show and we’re still standing.”
Selleck, who plays Commissioner Frank Reagan, has been on Blue Blood since the show premiered in 2010. He starred together Donnie Wahlberg (Detective Danny Reagan), Bridget Moynahan (Erin Reagan), Will Estes (Sergeant Jamie Reagan) and Look for it (Henry Reagan).
Following CBS’s announcement Blue Blood has been axed, Selleck paid tribute to the series in the statement.
“For the past 13 years, it has been an honor and a privilege to work on a show that not only celebrates the men and women who protect and serve New York City, but also shows the importance of family,” said Selleck. The Hollywood Reporter in November, 2023. “Working together with these incredible actors, writers, producers, directors and crew has made a dream come true, and I am grateful to have been a part of this incredible group for over 275 episodes. Thank you to CBS Studios and the network CBS for their continued support, and we extend our sincere thanks to the fans who gather with us for dinner every Friday night.
