Barack Obama showed off his rap skills after being introduced by Eminem at a rally in Detroit, spitting a few bars of one of the rapper’s biggest hits.
The platinum-selling artist and former US president shared the stage on Tuesday when he appeared at Kamala Harris’ rally in the key swing state of Michigan.
After being introduced by Eminem, Obama then took to the stage, joking that he ‘felt like following Eminem in some ways’ before adding that he was ‘nervous’ as he spoke. He then smoothly transitioned into the opening verse of Eminem’s 2002 single ‘Lose Yourself.’
‘I’ve done a lot of rallies so I’m not nervous. But I feel like I’m following Eminem,” Obama said. ‘I see, my palms are sweaty, my knees are weak, my hands are heavy, I’m spitting up my sweater, mom’s spaghetti.’
As the crowd applauded, he continued: ‘He’s nervous, but on the surface, he looks calm and ready / To drop the bomb, but he forgets…’
He finished the performance by singing his famous intro riff and saying ‘I’m in love with Eminem,’ before joking that he might ‘pop’ on stage once the rapper finished performing.
Eminem wasn’t the only Detroit rapper to endorse Kamala Harris this week, as the Democratic nominee also secured the all-important Juggalo vote after getting an endorsement from Violent J of the Insane Clown Posse.
In an interview with Daily Show Troy Iwata, the clown-based rapper explained why he prefers Democrats to Republicans, saying: ‘My mom says Democrats say less tax on the poor, more tax on the rich.
When asked about the taxes he paid, he enthusiastically claimed that he paid his anus, and I liked it. I paid double what they asked for.’
After saying ‘f*** no’ to Trump’s mass deportation policy, Violent J said he wanted Kamala to win ‘because she’s a Democrat and I love my mother’.
Donald Trump, meanwhile, has accused the Labor Party of ‘blatant foreign interference’ in the US election after it was revealed that party staff had been sent to the US to campaign for Kamala Harris in important swing states such as Michigan.
Republican candidate files complaint against ‘far left’ party for helping spread ‘dangerous liberal policies’ during election season.
This follows a now-deleted LinkedIn post by Sofia Patel, Labour’s chief operating officer, in which she announced plans to send around 100 activists to states in the US to campaign for Harris.
Trump also filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission alleging ‘illegal foreign campaign contributions and interference’ from the Labor Party, citing a LinkedIn post in which the party suggested they would ‘Sort the house’ for activists.
Under US election law, foreign volunteers are prohibited from spending more than $1,000 (£770) to help candidates, and Trump’s lawyers claimed the offer to pay for accommodation was considered foreign interference and demanded an ‘immediate investigation’ into the claim.
“Those looking for foreign interference in our election need look no further than (the) LinkedIn posts,” said the letter from Trump campaign attorney Gary Lawkowski. ‘The disturbance occurred in the presence of empty.’
But Keir Starmer insisted the volunteers would only be traveling in a ‘personal capacity’ rather than as part of the official Labor contingent.
‘The Labor Party has volunteers, who have gone through every election,’ Starmer told reporters on the 28-hour flight for the annual Commonwealth leaders’ summit in Samoa.
‘He does it in his spare time, he does it as a volunteer, he keeps up, I think, with the other volunteers there. That’s what they did in the previous election, that’s what they did in this election and it’s very direct.’
Starmer also insisted that he had ‘developed a good relationship’ with Trump after having dinner with him during a trip to New York that would not be damaged by the statement.
“We had a good constructive discussion and, of course as the prime minister of the UK, I will work with whoever the American returns to be President in the election, which is now very close.”
Starmer has never met Kamala Harris, but has met with President Biden several times since becoming prime minister in July.
