Michigan is home to the largest Muslim population in the country. American Muslims vote—and for decades, the majority of Muslims have voted for Democrats. But this time, there has been a seismic shift in loyalty from former Democratic voters to President Trump.
On September 22, 2024, Hamtramck Mayor Amer Ghalib, an Arab-American Democrat, announced that he was supporting former President Donald Trump. Hamtramck was the first city in America to have a Muslim-majority government.
Ghalib met with Trump in Flint, MI, during a private 20-minute meeting before Trump’s town hall.
“He knew a lot about me before the meeting,” Ghalib said Wednesday in a text message to The Detroit News.
“We talked about a variety of topics, including debates, poll updates, vote statistics in Michigan and Wayne County, Arab American concerns, and especially Yemeni Americans. We also talked about the situation in Yemen,” added Ghalib.

On October 22, the Detroit News did a random act of journalism and reported that Ahmed Ghanim of Ferndale, a Democratic activist running for the US House in the 11th District, was kicked out of Kamala Harris’ small rally at the tiny Royal Oak Music Theatre. in Royal Oak, MI.
Kamala’s campaign later released a statement saying it was “regrettable” the Muslim Democrat was kicked out of the rally and said “she is welcome at future events.”
According to Ghanim, she RSVP’d, cleared security and was sitting in the auditorium at the Royal Oak Musical Theater responding to an email on her phone when a staffer with the venue approached her and asked her to follow him.
At the entrance of the theater, employees were closed behind, and they were asked to leave or told they would be put in the back of a police car. Ghanim said he asked a Secret Service officer why he was removed, and he replied: “It’s not us. It’s the venue.”
A day later, Ghanim said he still hasn’t been given an explanation for what happened and hasn’t heard from anyone in the Harris campaign or with the Michigan Democratic Party. He felt he was being targeted because he was Muslim, he said.
“I think that’s how the Democratic Party is with Muslims. He was not important to her. … Maybe the Democratic Party doesn’t want people like me and my type in the party,” Ghanim said.
Today, a group of Muslim leaders and Imams from Michigan stood on the podium and announced that after meeting with President Trump, they have decided to endorse him for President of the United States in the November 5 election.

Muslim leaders then tackled a major controversy that angered Muslim and Christian parents when they discovered inappropriate reading material found in school libraries, which many compared to pornographic material.
“We support Donald J. Trump for his commitment to promote family values and protect our children, especially when it comes to curriculum and schools.
We, as Muslims, support this man because we believe he will be a President for all Americans, embracing every race, color, and religion. We are with President Trump because we want strong borders. We agree with President Trump that anyone who wants to come to this country is welcome, but they must do so through legal channels.
We are with President Trump because we want a strong economy. Don’t you want to?” he asked. The crowd responded with loud cheers. “We are with President Trump to Make America Great Again through peace and justice for all!”
“Finally, Michiganders, I have two predictions for you for the next 6 months. Are you ready? Number one: “The Detroit Lions are going to win the Super Bowl!” shouted the cheers.
“Are you ready for the second prediction?” he asked. “I can’t hear you,” he said, bringing the audience to their attention. “The second is that Donald J. Trump will be the 47th President of the United States!” He ended his powerful speech by saying, “God bless you all, and God bless America!” The crowd responded by chanting, “USA! USA! USA!” when he left the stage.
Earlier this week, Bill Bazzi, a former US Marine and Muslim Mayor of Dearborn Heights, endorsed President Trump. He took the podium today to explain why he endorsed President Trump at a rally in Novi.

Democratic polls in the state of Michigan will take a big blow with the loss of reliable Muslim voters.
