Thomas Sadoski hope the NFL has a visceral reaction to it American Sports Story.
“I think one of the most striking moments of this show is the image of all these young people — so many young people of color — lined up and poked and prodded,” Sadoski, 48, said. TV Insider on Tuesday, October 1. “The image is arresting and it should be.”
Sadoski did research on football players’ obstacles before taking on the role Brian Murphy.
“I know all about the joint and I know I’ve read about a lot of it. I’ve seen articles about a lot of it, but to see it up close and personal, even on a movie set, you have to drop your jaw,” he said. . “And part of the reason I think that something (project) like this is created is because it shakes the foundations of the established way of doing things that is really twisted.”
In response to a question about how he expected the organization to react to the event, Sadoski said, “I want the NFL to be angry at this show because this is a multi-billion dollar industry that has historically taken a long time to take responsibility for the welfare of the athletes, which so far a lot of lip service but not much action.
He continued: “The machismo thing that’s been going on for too long in the world of sports has (allowed). I think it’s changing, but I don’t know if it’s changing fast enough.
The first season of American Sports Storydebuted last season and is based on “Gladiator: Aaron Hernandez and Football Inc.” podcast, which focuses on Aaron Hernandez‘s time as a tight end with the University of Florida Gators before a stint with the New England Patriots. Josh Andres Rivera brings complicated athletes to life as a problem from the field that explores in the picture.
After becoming an NFL star, Hernandez was arrested in 2013 for murder Odin Lloyd and was convicted two years later. He was found guilty of first-degree murder in 2015 and later charged with second-degree murder Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado. Hernandez was released in 2017 and a few days later was found dead at the age of 27 in a prison cell. His death was ruled a suicide.
Sports fans can also expect to see actors playing familiar faces such as Tim Tebow, Urban Meyer and Bill Belichickwho all played a role in Hernandez’s life. Sadoski described the research he did for Hernandez’s agent role during the interview TV Insider.
“That’s the feeling I got from watching the trial and reading the articles. I think he’s a good person. I also think that the reality of the situation is that at a certain point, you’re going to fight the fact that this is an adult you’re dealing with, and he’s going to do what that’s what we’re going to do,” he said. . “You can give advice and try to inspire as much as possible, but at the end of the day, the full weight of responsibility for their actions and choices lies with them.”
From Sadoski’s perspective, there are several people in Hernandez’s life who “failed him spectacularly” and “should be held accountable” for that.
“Urban Meyer is a person who thinks. The coach in Florida should not be a young man anymore. It is a shame that he cloaks himself as this kind of holy Sunday morning,” he added. “I really sympathize with Brian Murphy because I think he’s trying to do the best job he can, but at the end of the day, you’re forced to deal with the reality that he’s going to have to make his choice.”
American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez airs on FX Tuesdays at 10 pm ET. New episodes stream the next day on Hulu.
