Adam Azim beat Ohara Davies on Saturday, and took him out for a meal the next day.
Azim excelled in a strong showing against Davies at the Copper Box in London and believes that his performance shows he is ready for another step up in class, and other domestic rivals.
He was close to Harlem Eubank earlier this year and has long been linked with a fight with Sheffield’s Dalton Smith.
“I’ll take both in one night,” Azim said Sky Sports. “It’s just going to be a pure boxing masterclass. I’m going to fight both sides and I know it’s not going to be four rounds.
“Both of them openly called me names. I don’t know their names, but since they keep talking about me, I have to talk about them too.
“The Harlem Eubank fight is still there. The Dalton Smith fight is still there. There are a lot of fights on the horizon, but the timing is right. I can also fight a former world champion, so these are the necessary steps. .”
Azim showed a new dimension to boxing in his latest outing.
“You have seen a lot of new things that I do in the fight. Long-range, inside work, mid-range, countering from the inside. It’s all in a complete package,” he said.
“My tactics were very good in the first three rounds, I knew I had a fight after that, but anything can happen in boxing. One punch can change anything, so I had to turn it around.
“Ohara Davies is also big, so he can punch. Everything is on track.
“It was a very good performance by me. It was also a very tough fight, so it was not an easy fight.”
Azim has known Davies for many years and has always respected him. He even went to eat one day after the fight.
“We had Nando’s the next day. We went out, I paid,” said Azim.
“It was a good step, a good victory and a good day.”
‘Dalton Smith fights fear’
Barry McGuigan, former world champion, boxing legend and father of Azim’s trainer, Shane, has followed the fighter’s progress as closely as anyone.
McGuigan remains adamant that Azim is a threat to anyone in the super lightweight division.
“The punches you don’t see are the punches that beat you and he’s so fast that he can land six punches before you bless yourself. He’s so fast,” Azim said.
“We’re working on basically making him walk down because we know he can box and move and fight defensively. So Shane has worked especially hard to make him fight close, blocking and slipping and any world class fighter will tell you. It’s his own skill. “
The rivalry with Smith will continue to grow and McGuigan is confident that Azim’s battle will be won.
“Adam is great for Dalton Smith. Dalton is a great fighter, don’t get me wrong. But he fights fear,” McGuigan said. Sky Sports.
“He boxes nervously like he doesn’t have confidence. He doesn’t fight aggressively. He boxes. He holds and waits and waits. And that’s a very good tactic against a certain style of fighter. We really believe that Adam won’t just beat. Dalton Smith, he will beat anyone in that weight division.
“(Dalton Smith’s) talent is not in question, it can be argued that he should have fought for the world title now. So it is realistic when two world champions, that when the fight is really impactful and when it has reached a huge amount.
“Shane will not be rushed. We know how to be a champion. We know how to train him, we know how to develop him, we know how to create him.
“We believe he will be ready when he is ready and we will make that decision.”
