The following is an editorial by Sarah Jones.
If you are someone who is concerned about the state of democracy under the potential of a second Trump, last night may have disturbed you. Last night, President Joe Biden took the stage to confront a notorious troll and he, like all of Trump’s opponents before him, was up to no good.
Biden came into the debate cold, so his voice was very low and at times hard to hear.
He repeatedly gave up time, allowing Trump to dominate the discussion.
Biden struggles with stuttering. The cold answers and the short format of the answers were obstacles that could not be overcome consistently, although he did well with the answers about Roe, January 6 and the historical disrepute of Donald J Trump who was recently preserved through the legal system finding him responsible for rape. being a con artist, and of course his 34 felonies and counting.
One of the best moments for President Biden was when he called Trump a whiner for not accepting a big loss in 2020: “I doubt if you will accept it because you are a whiner. The idea is, if you lose again, you accept something. You don’t keep losing. Someone snaps when you lose at the end.â€
The worst moment of the President is when stuttering and cold seem to have taken the wind out of the sails and he, who has fought to protect Medicare (the Republican lie that he cut Medicare by billions has been denied by experts) and has a plan to extend Medicare’s permanent solvency, jumbled his words, ending with, “We finally beat Medicare.â€
It’s a line you’ll be hearing from conservatives for the next ten years, but it’s not accurate. It is disturbing that this line will be used as a cudgel by those whose policies seek to destroy Medicare and Medicaid benefits. Trump’s policy advisers on Project 2025* explained that Trump would eliminate Medicaid and raise drug prices for those on Medicare if he is president again.
But Biden did some important things that Trump couldn’t or wouldn’t do; Biden talked about his own policies that have helped the American people, that he made a valiant effort to remain honest, and that he upheld the principles and norms of democracy even as Trump attacked his son Hunter Biden.
These things should be rewarded, but some legacy media have set the stage to make Joe Biden’s age an issue in this election, so instead of focusing on the fact that Joe Biden’s character remains true to a decent person who wants to help people. and feeling compelled to stick to the facts (with a given Democratic agenda), Biden suffered a loss.
Biden isn’t the best, but it’s also unfair to expect a candidate to fact-check Gish’s notorious lying during the debate — a feat even for fact-checkers who aren’t on stage trying to focus on policy thoughts. manage throughout Trump’s political career.
Why? Because Trump is at issue.
Trump spent his time on stage lying and smearing as a cover for refusing to discuss policy. Policy is something that will make a real difference in the lives of voters, and they deserve to hear from the candidates.
However, Trump, who claimed responsibility for overturning Roe, then shirked responsibility saying that everyone can just follow their heart.
This line should not be forgotten, Trump used the word “heart” at least twice during this debate, which is an old political strategy to avoid accountability for his actions by referring to the mythical “heart”. Think of it as a murderer (or in this case, a convicted felon) saying in court, “I have a good heart.” There is no point, but the purpose is to spread and free harmful behavior. It’s a Get Out of Jail Free card for cheaters.
Project 2025 also plans to eliminate women’s freedom nationwide by using the Comstock Act to “prohibit the shipment of drugs used in abortion, drugs and instruments and equipment used in surgical abortion and even information about abortion.”
So it’s important to hear Trump lie about Roe saying “everyone wants to go back to the states… everyone, without exception, Democrats, Republicans, liberals, conservatives.” Trump then claimed to believe in exceptions for rape, incest and the life of the mother, telling people to “Follow your heart,” as if women in countries where abortion is prohibited can only follow their “heart” if they want to live or not. medically tortured.
Perhaps one thing the entire media should agree on is that Trump’s refusal to accept the results of the last election and his incitement to attempt a coup are more problematic than anything Joe Biden has done.
When asked a second time if he would accept the results of the election, Trump began to reveal some of his most dangerous personality traits — a combination of persistent persecution, delusion, and astonishing immaturity. They can only agree to accept the results “if the election is fair and legal and good.” Oh, okay, but 2020 is the safest election in modern history and Trump refuses to accept it, so he continues to lie about the 2020 election, “But fraud and such is ridiculous.”
So about last night… Biden’s reality check; Trump is free to lie so much, he blames Nancy Pelosi and the Capitol Police for 1/6.
This is not Biden’s fault and it is not CNN’s fault.
Haven’t we blamed Trump’s victims enough for his actions? Trump is unfit for president. The fact that he is on the debate stage is the fault of the Republican Party, whose standards are now below the highest level of Hell next to “principled conservatives”.
President Biden needs to convince voters that he got this through another State of the Union type performance, but nobody should forget the fact that Donald Trump killed swing voters in yesterday’s focus group. The nausea you feel at the thought of watching this debate is not yours alone; it is shared by far more Americans than you can imagine.
If we look at last night as a litmus test of which one person shows he can be president, only one person is left standing – despite his weak performance. That person is Joe Biden. Like many incumbents before him, Biden had bad debates. But a bad debate does not make a bad president.
Biden made this case for himself on Friday, admitting that he doesn’t debate like he used to:
Biden spoke honestly to America about his debate performance, “I don’t debate like I used to, but I know what I want to say, how to say the right thing. I know right from wrong. I know how to get it done. If you get knocked down, you get back up.” .” pic.twitter.com/DcfaL0TUi0

This president has shown us every day in the priorities that he runs this country with expertise that only comes with age and experience.
