Exit polls show that PM Modi is likely to win a third term. The BJP-led NDA expects to get a majority in the Lok Sabha polls.
After several opinion polls on Saturday predicted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would win a third term, with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) hoping to secure a large majority in the Lok Sabha polls, it seems the rallying cry of the ruling party – ‘ Ab Ki Baar 400 Paar’ – may be true.
News18 Mega Exit Poll
Before counting the days of June 4 a News18 Mega Exit Poll predicted between 305 and 315 Lok Sabha seats for the Bharatiya Janata Party and 355 to 370 overall for the NDA in the recently concluded elections. According to the survey, Congress can get only 62-72 seats in the elections, while INDIA bloc can get 125-140. Parties outside the two alliances could get 42-52 seats.

Meanwhile, the Republic TV-P Marq poll claims that the ruling alliance will win up to 359 seats and the opposition INDIA bloc will get 154 seats in the 543-member Lok Sabha. The TV-Matrize Republican poll gave 353-368 seats for the NDA and 118-133 seats for the opposition. The Jan Ki Baat poll gave 362-392 seats to the ruling NDA and 141-161 to the opposition alliance.
400 marks
India TV-CNX gave 371-401 and 109-139 seats, while the numbers predicted by News Nation were 342-378 and 153-169. The India Today-Axis My India exit poll projected that the NDA could win as many as 401 seats. Chanakya and CNX also indicated that the NDA is all set to cross the 400-seat threshold.
In the 2019 polls, the BJP won 303 seats, while the NDA’s tally was 353. The Congress had won 53 seats and its allies 38. The ‘INDIA’ bloc was formed by the opposition parties to take on the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections. This time, the ruling alliance will in all likelihood open its account in Tamil Nadu and Kerala and sweep Karnataka, but there may be a drop in its tally in states like Bihar, Rajasthan and Haryana, according to the poll.
Modi exudes confidence
After the final phase of voting on Saturday, Modi expressed confidence that people had voted in record numbers to re-elect the NDA government and said the “opportunistic INDI Alliance” had failed to attack voters who rejected “regressive politics”.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge told reporters after a meeting of INDIA’s opposition bloc that the alliance would win more than 295 seats. “We have reached this number after talking to all our leaders. This is a survey of people. People have given this information to our leaders. The government survey is there and our media friends also increase the numbers and put them down. Therefore, we want to tell about the truth,” he said.
Only Once In History
In the history of Indian elections, such a feat has been achieved only once. The Congress, after the assassination of Indira Gandhi, won 414 seats out of 541 contested in the Lok Sabha elections. Even in the early years after independence, when the Congress enjoyed dominance, the electoral count remained relatively modest.
However, BJP president JP Nadda said that people have voted for a competent, strong, progressive and self-reliant India and rid of complacency, nepotism and corruption, confident that his party will win more than 370 Lok Sabha and NDA seats. 400.
