A woman’s body was found stuffed in a freezer weeks after she called the police about a ‘roommate problem’.
The remains of Monique Gilbertson, 68, were found in an ice box at her home after police responded to a welfare check on Nov. 6, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said.
‘They called you about two weeks ago,’ an employee at the Gilbertson community for people 55 and older told a 911 operator, according to 8 News Now.
‘He had a problem with his roommate, and he called because in his roommate’s belongings, he had found a gun, but I didn’t know until the call.
‘He said if he couldn’t catch you, he’d be happy to throw it in the bin.’
Officers who arrived at the home in the 5500 block of Tres Piedras Road in Las Vegas attempted to make contact with the woman but did not get a response. They went inside and found two people who didn’t know where they were.
“When officers searched the home, they found a woman deceased in the freezer,” the police department said.
They detained two individuals, one of whom was identified as Daniel Roush, 37. Roush was arrested in connection with Gilbertson’s death and is being held at the Clark County Detention Center.
The investigation determined that Gilbertson met Roush, who goes by Jazzlynn Roush, at the store and invited her to live with him. Gilbertson later became ‘tired of how dirty Roush was’ even though she helped him around the house, according to documents obtained by 8 News Now.
Gilbertson evicted Roush from his home around Oct. 22 and changed the locks. He had called the property manager’s office several times but hung up on that date, according to the employee.
It was not immediately clear if the employee was referring to Roush when she referred to the ‘roommate issue,’ but there was no indication that Gilbertson was living with anyone else in the weeks before her death, according to the documents.
Roush asked the responding police officer if he had a ‘warrant to look at the freezer’, the document said. He claimed he found Gilbertson slumped in a dining room chair and ‘put in an ice box’. Roush added that he believes Gilbertson overdosed on fentanyl and cocaine he bought from her.
How Roush was able to get into the home after the locks were changed is unclear.
There was a little blood on the scene. Gilbertson’s cause and manner of death were pending Friday.
Roush was charged with second-degree murder. He pleaded not guilty at a court appearance last Wednesday, KSNV reported.
Gilbertson’s body was found about a month after a human head and hand found in the freezer of her Colorado home were identified as those of a teenage girl who disappeared 19 years ago.
