Calling it a “big revelation”, BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya said the motorcycle used by prime accused Sanjay Roy was registered in the name of the Kolkata police commissioner and this required a “serious” investigation.
Amid clashes between police and protesters at a ‘Nabanna Abhijan’ rally demanding the resignation of West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, a BJP-led party has again accused Kolkata’s top police and the state government of trying to cover up the rape and murder of a trainee. doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
Calling it a “big revelation”, BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya said the motorcycle used by the main accused in the case, Sanjay Roy, was registered in the name of the Kolkata police commissioner and this required a “serious” investigation. The Kolkata Police, however, was quick to respond to the allegations by saying that all vehicles used by the force are registered with the police commissionerate before being assigned to different units.
“Sanjoy Roy, accused in the rape and murder case of RG Kar MCH, according to the Kolkata Police and TMC, at night, rode a bike registered in the name of the Kolkata Police Commissioner. The same Commissioner, who called himself a suicide, without proper investigation. Mamata Banerjee is constantly in touch with him,” Malviya wrote in a post on social media platform X.

He called on the chief minister and the police commissioner to resign to allow for a “free and fair investigation”. The CBI took over the investigation into the death of the woman doctor on August 13, following some rough observations in the city police investigation.
The Kolkata Police, in a clarification, said the bike was seized and handed over to the CBI and that “some individuals on social media” were trying to create confusion. The police said that while they are registered in the name of the police commissioner, all the vehicles in the force have the same registration under the post before they are assigned to different units.
‘Did the deceased find out about the fake drug syndicate…’
Claiming that there was a conspiracy behind the death of the woman doctor, Malviya said the CBI should take Banerjee and Goyal into custody and subject them to lie detection tests as well as examination of phone records.
He pointed to a “drug syndicate” in the chest medicine department of RG Kar hospital, which he said was being blamed by the larger medical fraternity. Saying there are “many layers”, he seeks to understand if the “original medicine” is being illegally shipped to neighboring countries and replaced with diluted or contaminated samples.
A senior BJP leader said the doctor was trained as a pulmonologist and may have stumbled upon “fake” activities as large consignments of tuberculosis drugs were sold using taxpayers’ money.
“Did the deceased find out about a fake drug syndicate in the Department of Chest Medicine, as alleged by medical members? He was a Pulmonologist and a large shipment of TB drugs, for example, was sold with taxpayers’ money. Is there a syndicate, which exports genuine drugs to neighboring countries and replace it with diluted / contaminated samples?
He added: “There are many layers. The CBI has a tough job, as the Kolkata Police and Mamata Banerjee have done everything to eliminate all evidence and protect those involved.
