Earlier, on July 23, the Supreme Court determined that there was no systematic violation of the NEET-UG question paper after examining the data analysis report of IIT Madras and other relevant statistics. As a result, he decided not to retest.
In its judgment today, the Supreme Court directed a Centre-appointed committee to develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) aimed at improving technological security. This includes identifying potential cybersecurity flaws in exam systems, improving identity verification procedures, and implementing CCTV monitoring in exam centers.
Highlights from today’s Supreme Court hearing
During the hearing, the Chief Justice of India (CJI) explained the responsibilities of the committee formed by the government. Committee responsibilities will include:
- Evaluate existing procedures.
- Development of Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
- Review the process for allotting exam centers.
- Implementation of enhanced identity verification.
- Installation of CCTV Monitoring at Puskesmas.
- Involvement of secure logistics providers to ensure the integrity of exam papers.
- Recommend a robust grievance redressal mechanism.
The CJI emphasized the importance of using technological advances to detect potential weaknesses in the cyber security of the examination system. He stressed the importance of international collaboration and cooperation to improve cyber security management.
In addition, the CJI emphasized the importance of counseling programs to ensure the mental health of students and advised staff and management to receive mental health training.
The Supreme Court ordered that the committee should submit its report by September 30. Furthermore, the Union Education Department is expected to provide a report on compliance and the committee’s decision within two weeks. The court said that students who have complaints that are not addressed in the court can approach the High Court.
The decision not to cancel the NEET UG 2024 exam held on May 4
The Supreme Court concluded that there was no systemic breach of examination papers, with the leak limited to specific locations in Patna and Hazaribagh. It identifies and highlights deficiencies in the structural processes of the National Testing Agency (NTA), stressing the need for improvement to benefit students.
CJI praised the advocate for arguing the ambiguous Physics question
The CJI also praised Advocate Sukriti Choudhary for effectively arguing the issue of ambiguous questions in the NEET Exam.
During an earlier hearing on July 23, the Supreme Court sought the help of an IIT-Delhi expert to resolve a dispute over two answers approved by the National Testing Agency (NTA) that should be considered correct for a basic question on atomic theory in the NEET. -UG Exam 2024. The court sought expert input after informing the petitioners that they have not provided sufficient evidence to show that the integrity of the entire NEET-UG 2024 exam has been compromised.
After the report of the expert committee, NTA released the revised result of NEET-UG 2024 on July 26. Consequently, a new score card with revised marks is published along with the revised cut-off score.
Latest findings of CBI probe into NEET paper leak
In a significant development, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed its first chargesheet in the NEET-UG exam paper leak case. In the chargesheet 13 people are accused of involvement in the paper leak and related irregularities.
The accused are Nitish Kumar, Amit Anand, Sikander Yadvendu, Ashutosh Kumar-1, Roshan Kumar, Manish Prakash, Ashutosh Kumar-2, Akhilesh Kumar, Avdesh Kumar, Anurag Yadav, Abhishek Kumar, Shivnandan Kumar, and Ayush Raj.
The CBI used advanced forensic techniques, artificial intelligence technology, CCTV footage, and tower location analysis to gather evidence against the accused.
So far, the CBI has arrested 40 people in connection with the case, including 15 who were initially arrested by the Bihar Police.
The agency has conducted searches at more than 50 locations and has filed six FIRs related to alleged irregularities in medical entrance exams. The FIRs from Bihar deal with paper leaks, while those from Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra include cases of impersonation and cheating of candidates.
