NEW DELHI: The Paris Olympics 2024 will witness a tennis event from July 27 to August 4, held at the legendary Stade Roland Garros. This iconic stadium has been home to the French Open, one of the four Grand Slam tournaments on the tennis calendar, since 1928.
The red clay courts at Roland Garros have been graced by some of the greatest tennis players in history, including Rafael Nadal, who won a record 14 French Open titles.
At the Paris Summer Games, a total of 172 players will compete in five medal events, including men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles.
Each event will feature a knockout format, with players advancing through rounds to the finals, where gold, silver, and bronze medals will be awarded.
List of Indian tennis players of Paris Olympics:
India will send a squad of three talented players to represent the country at the Paris Olympics.
Rising star Sumit Nagal will carry India’s hopes in the men’s singles event. Nagal has made steady progress on the ATP tour and has shown the potential to compete with the best players in the world. He famously beat Roger Federer at the 2019 US Open and will be looking to make his mark on the Olympic stage.
In men’s doubles, India will be represented by the experienced pair of Rohan Bopanna and Sriram Balaji.
Bopanna has been an Indian tennis player for over a decade and has won multiple titles on the ATP tour. He has also represented India in the previous Olympics and will bring valuable experience to the team.
Sriram Balaji, on the other hand, has been a consistent performer in the doubles circuit and has forged a strong partnership with Bopanna.
The Indian tennis contingent will be hoping to end the country’s long wait for an Olympic medal in the sport. India has not won a medal in tennis since Leander Paes’ Bronze in the men’s singles event at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996. However, with a talented squad and the support of a billion fans, the Indian team will look to make history in Paris.
