Tate McRae is a big supporter of strong female friendships – and bond with Olivia Rodrigo no exception.
“I love Olivia. I love all my girlfriends,” McRae, 21, exclusively told in the latest issue of Us Weeklynoted that people “think way harder into it than we do” and try to read into any interaction between musicians.
The “Greed” singer admitted that she and Rodrigo, 21, have always been cheerleaders, not rivals.
“We’re just friends who like to sing,” McRae said. “We all support each other and want to go to each other’s concerts and want to hear each other’s music.”
He explained, “There’s not a lot of beef out there. I think people try to make things that are never true and we just think it’s funny.
When push comes to shove, Canadian musicians tell it us He thinks that “it hurts when we can do our own thing and love each other’s things.” McRae added, “You shouldn’t overthink it more than that.”
McRae and Rodrigo’s friendship has been in the headlines since 2023 when McRae appeared in “Rodrigo’s bad idea, huh?” music video together with his friends Iris Apatow and Madiun Hu.

McRae and Rodrigo have started to kill the stage Think World Tour Later and GUTS World Tour, respectively. The busy schedule makes it difficult to stay in touch, according to McRae, who has been trying to find a rhythm as a player and a caring friend.
“It’s hard (because) I’m the worst person ever. (I) can’t pick up the phone to answer anybody, so it’s hard,” McRae said. “I’m just better in person. My friendships are so strong in person and online.
He joked, “I’m really tragic. So I think I’ll just (roughly) make plans to see my friends when I get back” to town. McRae added that “everything is fine” with his friends once they finally connect, even if it means talking about “occasional FaceTime calls.”
When it comes to romantic connections, McRae tells us us he was “never very public with my relations.”
He points to his drive for success as a factor in keeping romance on the backburner. “I usually because the priority for me has always been music,” McRae said. “I’m here just releasing music and dancing and doing what I want, and I think the rest is not important.”
In addition to keeping his friends on tour, McRae recently livened up his appearance by upgrading his smile. The singer joined Invisalign to improve her smile and confidence on stage.
“Invisalign saved my smile completely. Using Invisalign aligners has changed my confidence, and I feel very grateful to work with them,” he said about the dental company. “I used to be someone who was insecure about my smile and my teeth, I feel like a different person now that my teeth are straight, and I feel better.”
