The Maharashtra government’s recently launched ‘Ladki Bahin Yojana’ – under which eligible women will receive a monthly financial assistance of Rs 1,500 – has sparked widespread discussion across the country.
On microblogging site X, cabinet minister and in-charge of women and child development department Aditi Tatkare announced that ahead of the auspicious day of Raksha Bandhan, the Maharashtra government has started distributing financial assistance to deserving women. The department is working round the clock to ensure that funds are transferred directly to the bank accounts of eligible women, he added.
“To make the auspicious day of Raksha Bandhan sweeter, the Department of Women and Child Development is working 24 hours to transfer financial assistance from the ‘Mukhyamantri Ladki Bahin Yojana’. The disbursement of funds started in the evening before Independence Day, and the department continued its work till 4 am on Independence Day. A total of 80 lakh women have received monthly financial assistance directly into their bank accounts,” Tatkare said.
Deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis also announced that funds have started being deposited into the accounts of the beneficiaries. In the first phase, one crore women across the country will benefit, with five lakh women from Nagpur district alone. Fadnavis assured that the scheme will continue to be implemented consistently. This announcement was made during the Independence Day flag hoisting ceremony at Nagpur Divisional Commissioner’s Office where Fadnavis, who is also Nagpur’s guardian minister, presided over the event.
In his speech, Fadnavis stressed the importance of the ‘Ladki Bahin Yojana’, stressing how it provides vital financial support to women across Maharashtra. He mentioned that the funds under this scheme have already started being credited to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries. In the first phase, one crore women are set to receive this assistance, providing much-needed relief to many families across the country.
Fadnavis also described the sacrifices of freedom fighters who bravely fought for India’s independence. He noted that India has now become the fifth largest economy in the world, a journey he described as extraordinary.
On Independence Day, Fadnavis honored the freedom fighters and thanked them for their sacrifices. He also stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set the theme of ‘Developing India’ for this year’s Independence Day celebrations. Fadnavis also discussed his broader development vision in Maharashtra, referring to significant investments of over Rs 50,000 crore and major projects like the Samruddhi Mahamarg. These projects, he said, are indicators of the country’s progressive trajectory.
Apart from the ‘Ladki Bahin Yojana’, Fadnavis touched on other welfare initiatives undertaken by the state government. He mentioned that farmers in Maharashtra received free electricity, girls were given free education, and households received free electricity up to 300 units under the Solar Home Scheme. The Deputy CM also announced plans to upgrade the Divisional Sports Complex to a State Sports Complex and eventually convert it into a Sports University.
BJP MLA Ram Satpute shared a picture of the message he received from the beneficiaries of the ‘Mukhyamantri Ladki Bahin Yojana’, confirming that the funds had indeed been deposited in their accounts. In a post on ‘X,’ Satpute congratulated the Mahayuti government, the Maharashtra CM, and the two deputy CMs for successfully implementing this scheme, which will benefit many women.
