An The Amazon Prime TV series has been hailed as the ‘best of the year’ after a ‘win’ for season 2.
In 2022, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power premiered on streaming platforms, bringing viewers back to Middle-earth to witness the terrifying rise of Sauron.
It is claimed that the budget for the show was originally around $1 billion (£756.5million), meaning that fans have very high expectations for the prequel to the Lord of the Rings film trilogy.
Many viewers were unsatisfied with season one, branding it a ‘disappointment’ despite the epic scale and huge amount of money invested.
However, it seems all that has now changed with his second outing, which has been described as a ‘great improvement’ two years later.
At X, fans devoured the first three episodes, released today, with @@kaiyashunyata saying: ‘Season two of #TheRingsOfPower is a return to middle earth. balancing a tighter narrative with spectacular spectacle and performances, this is undeniably the best fantasy show of the year.’
Echoing the sentiment, @FrewFilm said: ‘I wasn’t a fan of the first chapter of #TheRingsOfPower, but Season 2 is a HUGE improvement. I have been glad to return to Middle-earth.’
@ThomasStorai added: ‘#TheRingsofPower is easily the best series of the year. Season 2 is bigger and darker, raising the stakes to new heights with one of the most epic battles on television.’
Season Two follows the return of the Dark Lord Sauron (Charlie Vickers), who rebuilds his strength to oversee the creation of the Rings of Power after being overthrown by Galadriel (Morfydd Clark).
Speaking about what to expect from the new season, showrunner JD Payne, who created the show with Patrick McKay, told The Hindu: ‘In the new season, we see Sauron going to Eregion to meet Celebrimbor (Charles Edwards), who is Leonardo. da Vinci of the elves.
‘We get to watch her seduce, lie and eventually blame Celebrimbor. The process drives people crazy so they can do what they want… that’s where a good thriller comes in.
He added: “We all know, whether it’s in a romantic relationship or a friendship or a work relationship, people with these tendencies can use you without remorse.
‘When we watched Sauron pick two Celebrimbor’s sanity, it was harrowing to experience.’
The Rings of Power is available to stream on Amazon Prime.
