2.1 Medical advice
Our Health coverage reports on studies, guidance and outbreaks. It is not a diagnosis, a treatment plan, or a substitute for consulting a doctor, pharmacist or other qualified healthcare professional.
Never disregard professional medical advice, or delay seeking it, because of something you read on this Site. If you think you may have a medical emergency, contact your local emergency services immediately.
Clinical research is provisional by nature. A promising trial result is not a licensed treatment; a drug that reduced a measurement in a study may not help you; a regulator’s acceptance of an application is not an approval. We try to report these distinctions carefully, but no article can replace a conversation with your own clinician.
2.2 Legal advice
Our reporting on laws, regulations, court rulings and rights describes the general position at the time of writing, often across multiple jurisdictions. Law varies by country and changes constantly, and how it applies to you depends on facts an article cannot know. Consult a qualified lawyer in your own jurisdiction.
2.3 Financial or investment advice
Our coverage of economies, trade, energy markets, companies and public policy is journalism about how the world works. It is not investment research, a personal recommendation, or an inducement to buy, sell or hold anything. We do not tell readers what to do with their money, and any figure we report is a description of what happened, not a forecast. Consult a regulated financial adviser before making financial decisions.
2.4 Travel advice
Our Travel reporting describes border rules, visa systems, tourist regulations, fares and openings as they stood when we published. These change frequently and often at short notice. Entry requirements in particular can be altered without warning. Always verify current requirements with the relevant government authority, embassy or consulate, your airline, and your government’s official travel advisory before you book and again before you depart. We are not responsible for a journey disrupted by a rule that changed after we wrote about it.
2.5 Safety and security
Reporting on a conflict, a disaster or an outbreak describes conditions as understood at the time. It is not a security assessment for your personal travel or activity, and situations on the ground can change within hours.
3. Accuracy, and the limits of it
We work hard to be accurate. We check claims against primary sources, report numbers with their source and period, and mark clearly where evidence is thin or where credible sources disagree. Our editorial standards set out how.
Even so, we make no warranty that our content is complete, accurate, current or fit for any particular purpose. Specifically:
- Breaking news is provisional. Early reports of casualties, causes and responsibility are frequently revised. We update stories as facts firm up.
- Articles age. An article is accurate as of its publication date, shown on every page. We do not systematically revisit older articles when circumstances change, and an archived piece may describe a world that no longer exists.
- Contested facts stay contested. In conflicts and disasters, casualty figures and accounts of events are often disputed between parties with reasons to differ. Where we report such figures, we attribute them to whoever issued them rather than presenting them as established.
- Translation and transliteration of names and quotations can vary between sources.

Content published in our Opinion section, and any piece labelled as analysis, comment or editorial, expresses the views of its author. 5. External links and third-party content
We link to outside sources deliberately and often, so that readers can check our work rather than take it on trust. We do not control those sites. A link is not an endorsement of the linked site, its owner, its accuracy or its products, and we accept no responsibility for the content or availability of any external resource. Third-party sites have their own terms and privacy practices; following a link means leaving this Site.
6. Images and illustrations
Photographs and illustrations are published under licences permitting their use, and credited with the applicable licence. Where an image is illustrative — a stock or library photograph chosen to accompany a subject rather than a photograph of the specific event, person or place described — the caption says so. An illustrative image should not be read as documentary evidence of the events in the article.
7. Artificial intelligence tools
We use software tools, including AI-assisted tools, for research support, transcription, translation and drafting assistance. We do not treat any such tool as a source of fact. Every claim, quotation, figure and date is verified by a person against a primary or otherwise reliable source before publication, and a human editor is accountable for every article we publish. Where AI tools played a material role in producing a piece of content, we say so on that content.
8. Advertising, sponsorship and affiliate links
Where the Site carries advertising, sponsored content or affiliate links, they are labelled as such. Commercial partners have no influence over our editorial coverage. We do not endorse advertised products or services, we do not verify advertisers’ claims, and any transaction you enter into with an advertiser is entirely between you and them. Where an affiliate link may earn us a commission at no additional cost to you, that is disclosed on the page.
9. No guarantee of availability
We do not guarantee that the Site will be available uninterrupted or error-free, that defects will be corrected, or that the Site is free of viruses or other harmful components. You are responsible for maintaining your own security software and backups.
