The official cause of death of Crazy Town frontman Shifty Shellshock has been revealed exactly three months after his death.
The Post has confirmed with the Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s Office that the “Butterfly” singer died of an accidental overdose. Fentanyl, cocaine and methamphetamine were found in his system.
Shellshock – whose real name was Seth Binzer – died at his Los Angeles home on June 24 at the age of 49.
Crazy Town manager Howie Hubberman confirmed his death. He was the first to reveal that the musician had overdosed; However, the coroner’s office said that additional tests are needed to determine the cause.
“Seth Binzer, after struggling with addiction and the quick success of Crazy Town with ‘Butterflies,’ has never been able to reach a higher level of success in overcoming addiction,” Hubberman told People. “We all tried, but in the end we all failed, or Shifty would still be here.”
Shellshock opens up about his battle with addiction, admitting to using cocaine and stimulants. His struggles were documented in Seasons 1 and 2 of “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew.” He also appeared in the follow-up series “Sober House” in 2009 and 2010.
The star gave birth to three children: Hello, Gage and Phoenix, who were welcomed by three separate women and their families say it is “the proudest achievement.”
Shellshock had dated the actress “Punky” Brewster” Soleil Moon Frye before her shock. He kept silent when she died, sharing some photos together.
“My heart whispers a million I love you because you love my children and I unconditionally,” Moon Frye wrote on June 30.
“I can still see your sweet smiling face in middle school when you kissed me in the tunnel of love and the way you swept me away again when we grew up to show me what that kind of eternal love feels like,” the actress continued. “There are no words to describe the love we shared or how we feel right now. They are their own languages.”
Shellshock’s family also issued a statement.
“For Seth, the world is art – he loves all parts of it, from music and fashion to graffiti, skateboarding and his hometown of Los Angeles,” a loved one told The Sun. “She loved her three boys more than anything, and her dedication to her music and fans never wavered.”
He also talked about his struggles.
“God knows he tried so hard to defeat the demons, but unfortunately he lost the battle,” the statement continued. “Our hearts are broken for losing him. Seth’s larger-than-life presence captivated many. Seth is a troubled soul, but he is beautiful and has a heart of gold.
Shellshock and Bret “Epic” Mazur formed Crazy Town in 1995. In 2000, they released the hit single “Butterfly”. The song peaked at No.
“Darkhorse,” the second album was released in 2002 and was a failure. The album contributed to Crazy Town’s breakup the following year. Shellshock and Mazur changed the name of the group several times.
Shellshock has been talking about the issue of the substance since March 2023, saying that he still has hope that he can live a quiet life.
“I was too wild to stick around for a long time,” said Shellshock in an episode of “The Punk Rock MBA” podcast. “I lived through a lot of crazy s–t, and it got to the point where I was like, ‘I’d like to live.'”
“This is a new way of life that needs to be taught slowly,” he said. “To do it right, you have to do more than just want it. Every day now it’s just about finding peace and taking care of yourself.”
Less than a year before his death, Shellshock promised his friend Mike “Rebel” Raymo that he would detox and get sober.
“I’m going to do three to five days of chemical detox and then I’m going to go to meetings and outpatients and I’m going to walk, do it and make you proud,” the late rocker told Raymo in an audio recording published by the Daily. Letter on Monday, September 16.
