Toadie Rebecchi will forever be a name synonymous with Neighbors – even though the Ramsay Street legend has said goodbye after nearly 30 years.
Say it’s not!
Back in June, actor Ryan Moloney announced his decision to leave – but he actually made a brave decision a few years ago.
Those initial plans were halted when British broadcaster Channel 5 axed the show in 2022, meaning without funding it could not continue.
Ryan realized that it would be best if he remained a part of the history-making finals, and so agreed to return to last year’s Amazon Freevee.
‘When the neighbor comes back, we will get 12 month options (in) the contract, and I guess that sort of plan to kind of wind Toadie in the way’ Ryan recently told me in an exclusive chat.
‘The producers also and really know that I wanted to continue and do more, but at the same time I’m a bastard for experience.’
In the episode uploaded to Prime Video this morning, we saw Toadie say his final goodbyes to Erinsborough after deciding to move to Colac – some two hours away – on the other side of Victoria.
After years of marital misery, disturbing flashbacks and being left for dead in the Australian outback, she concludes that it’s best to start over with her family.
Residents gather in the back garden of No. 28, the home of surrogate parents Karl (Alan Fletcher) and Susan Kennedy (Jackie Woodburne) for one last celebration.
Outside, Toadfish sits on the hood of a car and we’re treated to a series of flashbacks spanning three decades, including when Lou Carpenter (Tom Oliver) cuts his infamous mullet.
With the celebration in full swing, and everyone dressed up in Hawaiian shirts, he walked around the group to thank them for their friendship. Harold Bishop (Ian Smith) even dug up a history book full of priceless photos!
Karl and Susan then break down in tears as they present a portrait of themselves, painted in the style of Helen Daniels that they missed.
Later, he says his final goodbyes as he leaves with children Nell (Ayisha Salem-Towner) and Hugo (Tanner Ellis-Anderson) for pastures new.
It really is the end of an era!
At X, the iconic script producer Shane Isheev shared a full-circle moment for the character: ‘Toadie has been a huge part of my life and Ryan knows exactly how I feel about him and the character.
‘When deciding who should write this ep, Liz Packett was my only choice. He made Toadie, so it was a full circle moment! Liz and Ryan are very attentive to this.’
One fan, Ben Bone, who hosts a Neighbors-themed vlog, added: ‘Crying watching @Neighbours this morning. Goodbye Toadie!!!’
