President Draupadi Murmu will present the National Teachers Day 2024 award to 82 selected teachers today, September 5 at Vigyan Bhavan, Delhi in recognition of their commitment and dedication to the education sector.
In India, Teacher’s Day is celebrated on September 5, the birthday of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. On this occasion, the President of India Droupadi Murmu will honor 50 teachers with the National Teacher Award. The National Teacher Awards are given to recognize the contribution of teachers to improving the quality of education and promoting a positive learning experience for students. The prestigious award includes a certificate of achievement, a cash prize of ₹ 50,000, and a silver medal. In addition, the winners will have an opportunity to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Teachers who will be honored at the ceremony today
This year, 50 teachers from 28 states, 3 Union Territories, and 6 organizations have been selected for the prestigious award through a rigorous and transparent three-stage selection process that includes district, state, and national levels. The awardees, consisting of 34 male and 16 female teachers, including 2 visually impaired and 1 teacher working with children with special needs (CWSN).
In addition to school teachers, 16 teachers from the Department of Higher Education and 16 from the Ministry of Skills Development and Entrepreneurship will be awarded this prestigious award. In 2023, two award categories were added to the list for Higher Education Institutions (IPTs) and Polytechnics under the National Awards for Teachers (NAT), which were previously limited to school teachers. The 16 teachers were selected from Polytechnics, State Universities, and Central Universities.
