The third time is the charm.
Princess Theodora of Greece finally married American lawyer Matthew Kumar in a lavish Athens wedding after the couple was forced to postpone the ceremony twice.
The couple held their long-awaited wedding at the Greek capital’s historic Metropolitan Cathedral on Saturday, the same church where Theodora’s parents lived 60 years ago.
Theodora, 41, is the youngest daughter of the late King Constantine, who was the last King of Greece for just three years before being forced into exile in 1967.
The political group that took over abolished the monarchy in 1973, but Theodora, her mother, Queen Anne-Marie and her siblings still represent the country as royalty.
Theodora and Kumar were married by His Eminence Metropolitan of Syros, Dorotheos II in a Greek Orthodox wedding ceremony.
Princess Theodora’s strapless wedding dress with a pleated neckline was created by Greek designer Celia Kritharioti. She also wore an antique Irish lace veil and became the seventh royal princess to wear the Khedive of Egypt’s Tiara, according to The Court Jeweller. Kumar wore a long black suit with a green waistcoat.
The couple announced their engagement in November 2018 when Theodora posted a photo with Kumar in front of Tower Bridge in London.
“Words cannot express our happiness and excitement,” Theodora said in an Instagram post. “I can’t wait to marry this wonderful man. I love you Matt.
Their wedding was originally scheduled for May 2020, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The second attempt at marriage was rejected when Theodora’s father died in January 2023 at the age of 82. The heir to the British throne, Prince William, did not attend the memorial service for his godfather, King Constantine due to Kate Middleton’s cancer battle.
Despite the delay, the wedding finally took place and was packed with royals.
Groomsmen for Matthew, 41, included the brothers Crown Prince Pavlos, 57, and Prince Phillipos, 38, as well as Crown Princess Marie Chantal’s second son, Prince Achilleas-Andreas.
The royal bridesmaids were the daughters of Pavlos and Marie-Chantal, Princess Maria-Olympia and Arrietta Morales de Grecia, the eldest daughter of Princess Alexia’s sister.
Theodora was born in London and earned a bachelor’s degree in theater arts. She moved to Los Angeles in 2010 with dreams of becoming an actress and is known for appearing in the soap opera “The Bold and The Beautiful.”
Kumar was born and raised in southern California and works at a Los Angeles-based law firm.
“The couple’s wish to have a wedding in Athens reflects their love for Greece, their strong ties to the country and their desire to share Greek culture and hospitality and identity with their guests,” the former Greek royal family said in a statement.
The former Royal Family of Greece still uses the title because “This style was first established in the 1815 Treaty of Vienna, which stated that the title is a hereditary title that is retained even when the associated royal office is no longer in existence,” according to the royal website. .
