Photos from the somber event show Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson all came to a private funeral held in Amersham, England. One picture shows Malik, 31, and Tomlinson, 32, walking together. This is the first time that the four remaining band members have been together since Malik left the group in March 2015.
Payne died on October 16 after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Us Weekly before confirmed. He was 31. Payne’s former bandmates released a joint statement a day after his death.

“We are totally devastated by the news through Liam. In time, and when everyone can, there will be more to say,” the member of One Direction still on October 17. “But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, whom we love so much. The memories we shared with him will be cherished forever. Now, our thoughts are with his family, friends and loving fans with him. We will miss you so much. We love you Liam.”

“I feel more blessed to have you in my life, but I really struggle with the idea of saying goodbye,” Tomlinson wrote. “I’m so grateful that we’ve become closer since the band, talking on the phone for hours, reminiscing about all the thousands of amazing memories we made is a luxury that I think will be with you for the rest of your life. I’m happy to share the stage again with you, but it didn’t happen.”
“I hope I get (the chance) to say goodbye and tell you again how much I love you,” he said. “Payno, my son, one of my best friends, my sister, I love you. Sleepy X.”

I will cherish all the memories with you in my heart forever ,” he wrote. “There are no words that can justify or explain what I feel right now, other than not being broken. I hope that wherever you are now, you are well and at peace and know how much you are loved. Love you.”

For his part, Horan, 31, reflected on his memories with Payne, including a recent interaction at Horan’s Buenos Aires concert in early October. “I’m really saddened by the death of my amazing friend, Liam. It doesn’t feel real,” he said. “We got to fulfill our wildest dreams and I will cherish every moment forever. The bonds and friendships we experience don’t happen often in a lifetime.
