This Is What 21-Year-Old Pregnant Woman Ta’Kiya Young Shows
According to CNN, Grubb and another officer confronted Young in the store’s parking lot on August 24, 2023. The officer was reportedly informed of claims that Young shoplifted from the store.
“Get out of the car,” one officer told the woman, according to NBC News. “They said you stole something. Don’t go.”
According to NBC News as the interaction continued, Young rejected the officer’s statement and ordered him to get out of the car. At one point, he reportedly asked, “You’re going to shoot me?”
According to CNN, body camera footage later showed Young’s car “slowly” moving toward the second officer. At that point Grubb reportedly fired “one shot” into Young’s windshield. Later, the shot killed the woman.
Ta’Kiya Young’s Family Responds to Officer’s Allegations
According to NBC News, Young’s grandmother, Nadine, spoke at a news briefing on Tuesday, August 13. Nadine explained that in addition to being pregnant, her granddaughter is the mother of a 3-year-old and a 6-year-old.
Nadine reportedly explained that she is now raising her grandchildren.
“It has been for me, suffering,” he reportedly explained. “It’s like a whirlwind that just hurts and hurts.”
In addition, Walton reportedly added that Grubb “enhanced” the incident and did not follow police protocol.
“Everything he did led to that situation, and that’s why Ta’Kiya was killed,” Walton said at the conference.

Meanwhile, Grubb police chief John Belford shared a video statement on Facebook confirming that “disciplinary” action would be taken against the officer.
“I want to be very clear: We have not ruled that Officer Grubb acted properly. We have not seen the evidence,” Belford said, per CNN. “However, since the accused persons may not legally own firearms, the prosecution against them has no choice but to initiate legal disciplinary proceedings.”
Despite the police chief’s compliance, Brian Steel, executive vice president of the local police union, expressed his disapproval of Grubb’s allegations.
“… Like all law enforcement officers, Officer Grubb has to make split-second decisions, a reality that is all too familiar to those who protect our communities,” he said. “These decisions are made under extreme pressure and often in life-threatening situations, with the ultimate goal of protecting the general public and their own lives.”
