Feature A Reader argues that the Nintendo Switch 2 launch in October is almost certain and not just because of recent leaks.
Since last week’s PlayStation 5 State of Play, there’s been an excitement in the air that hasn’t been seen in gaming for a long time. We can see it again, how it happens, when a company makes a proper video game, tells you about it a year before it comes out, and doesn’t want you to give up your whole life and bank balance to play it. . Maybe it’s a blip or maybe Sony has seen sense in the end, I don’t know. But it’s not actually him that I’m most interested in right now.
I’ve owned PlayStation and Xbox consoles before, but my first love for gaming has always been Nintendo. No other game and hardware delivers greater entertainment and wonder than Nintendo. From Zelda: A Link To The Past on the SNES to Super Mario Bros. Wonder on the Switch they’ve been in business for so long it’s literally impossible to beat their track record at this point.
The Switch might be the best console ever, which says something about how long Nintendo has been around, and now it’s at the point where it’s about to be announced. Assuming this feature is going to happen over the weekend, it could be this Monday, according to rumors so far…
Nintendo said it would announce the Switch 2 before April, but no one thought it would wait until March 31st to do so. I have bet in January or February before but there is so much talk of opening this year, pointing to the beginning of October, I have started to believe it.
Perhaps it’s just wishful thinking but the basic design has been seen leaking, and Nintendo should know that the longer it’s left, the more likely the final version will leak from the Chinese factory where it’s made.
It should have been done months in advance, so now many people who don’t know about the NDA (and how fierce Nintendo’s lawyers are) know exactly what the Switch 2 is and at some point soon. they are going to post a picture online.
This is what makes me think that the October reveal has happened. It’s not a question of not wanting to make people buy a Switch a Christmas, it’s that if they wait until January, poor quality photos will be everywhere and because there’s no context or explanation to go with it. made all the wrong assumptions about it – especially about its power.
Nintendo needs to announce it now or they will lose the initiative. Unlike the PS5 Pro, as the tech specs were leaked months before and in the end it was just the PlayStation 5 with some lines drawn. By comparison, we don’t know what the Switch 2 is or what it does.
The leak suggests that the Switch is getting the update now, but who knows? It might do more things that we don’t know about. Or maybe the photo is fake and the Switch 2 really looks like a sponge with a sick controller, or something. (Personally, I don’t think it’s fake, because there are so many reliable sources that say it’s real, or at least an early version of what’s real.)
So, if this comes out on Sunday, consider this: The Switch 2 could be announced in less than 24 hours. And if not, it will probably be in the next 24 days. I’m excited, not only because I love Nintendo but because I love games and it’s not just bad – actually depressingly bad – news all year and now we’re on the cusp of some good news that should cheer everyone up.
