Naoya Inoue will fight TJ Doheny in Tokyo today, defending his undisputed super-bantamweight title against the Irishman.
Inoue is arguably the No. 1 pound-for-pound boxer in the world, with an undefeated record and an astounding knockout rate. Japan, 31, has eased through most of the fights so far, becoming the undisputed champion of two weights in the process – and has held titles in four divisions overall.
But last time, he faced his biggest adversity ever, when he was knocked out by Luis Nery in the first round in May. The “Monster” rallied impressively, though, sticking Nery in the second, fifth and sixth round, with the final knockdown ending the fight.
Next up for Inoue is Doheny, a veteran southpaw who goes to Inoue’s backyard to find distraction. The 37-year-old enters Tokyo with a professional record of 26-4 (20 KOs), while Inoue is 27-0 (24 KOs).
