Oasis seem ready to announce their long-awaited reunion tour, 15 years after the famous incident between brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher.
The group formed in Manchester, one of the defining rock bands of the Nineties, split in 2009 after being behind the scenes in Paris and have not played together since then.
The announcement, scheduled for 8 a.m. on Tuesday (August 27), was teased over the weekend, prompting fans to speculate that the two have at least patched up their rift enough to join them on stage again.
There have been a few clues in recent months, not least a surprise interview last week in which Noel paid rare praise to his sister.
Headlining Reading Festival on Saturday, Liam dedicated the Oasis track “Half The World Away” to Noel, while a clip teasing Tuesday’s announcement date was shown on the stage’s main screen at the back of the set.
Early reports have suggested the band will reunite for stadium shows next year, including in their hometown and at London’s Wembley Stadium.
A setlist will include early hits such as “Wonderwall”, “Champagne Supernova”, “Cigarettes and Alcohol” and “Rock ‘n’ Roll Star”.

Liam Gallagher has long been vocal about his belief that Oasis will never break up. Back in 2017, he told me The IndependentMusic editor Roisin O’Connor shortly after the release of her debut solo album: “I’d rather be in a band, and we probably wouldn’t break up, but I definitely don’t want to, you know what I mean. ? I – I needed four years ago, but I don’t need now. I’d rather be a band – that makes the same racket as Oasis.
“I miss the band with my brother. But it didn’t happen.” Here’s the full interview:

Both Gallagher brothers continue to play Oasis hits during the two seasons, but have tended to only perform the songs they originally sang themselves. Here’s Mark Beaumont’s review of Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds at Glastonbury 2022, when he notes Noel “sticks to acoustic singalongs and anthems – ‘Wonderwall’, ‘Whatever’, ‘Stop Crying Your Heart Out’, ‘Half a World Away’. “

In the decade-and-a-half since Oasis last performed together, rumors of a potential reunion sometimes seem like little more than wishful thinking. Back in 2016, The Independent talking to Mat Whitecross about the Oasis documentary Supersonic And when asked if the brothers will reform, the director replied: “I don’t know myself.”

One reason Noel Gallagher can hope to get the band back together? At the end of December he was newly single again, and announced at the time that he was ready to return to some Nineties-style partying.

Earlier this year, Liam Gallagher and former Stone Roses guitarist John Squire sat down with The Independent‘s Laura Barton to discuss the collaborative record Liam Gallagher John Squire.
At that time, Liam was really open on the subject of his sister. “Long time no see, man,” he said. “But I think she was on my mom the other weekend. She looks good, man. She looks so much happier in her skin. Surprise sur-f***ing-prise.”
She added that she felt “all my olive branches are gone. I have nothing,” but said that if Noel approached her, she would be happy. “One percent. He is my brother, I love him.”

Could it be that Noel Gallagher has overcome his reluctance to reunite Oasis because he’s not sure how long he’ll be gone? The songwriter, 57, recently predicted he would be “lucky” to make it to 60.
“Just because Jagger minces at 103 doesn’t mean everyone can,” he joked.

Rumors of an Oasis reunion have been swirling since June, when we reported that a sign reading ‘reserved for Noel Gallagher’ had appeared at Liam’s show at the O2 Academy in London. Here’s what we said:

Liam Gallagher headlined Reading festival yesterday, playing Oasis’ classic 1994 debut album Of course maybe in full.
Our reporter Mark Beaumont was there to witness it, writing: “As the clacker clock on the screen clicks down from 2024 to 1994, Liam Gallagher appears on a stage decorated with large renditions of objects from Of course maybe sleeve – hanging globe, portrait of Bacharach, two blind flamingos. ‘Liam vibes in the house, Bonehead vibes in the house,’ he said, pointing to the presence of Oasis guitarist Paul ‘Bonehead’ Arthurs on guitar as ‘Rock’n’Roll Star’ began his traditional foray into greatness. The punkish set that follows – consisting of the entire debut album plus a mid-set selection of B-sides and one-off singles – is a dream of a Gallagher show, delivered with just the right frisson of brittle bolshiness, and, after his years of online badgering and button-push for the Oasis reunion, a certain satisfied relish. Big reward air finally got it.
