House Democrats have launched an investigation into allegations that Egypt gave $10 million in cash bribes to Donald Trump.
Rep. Jamie Raskin, Ranking Member of the Oversight and Accountability Committee, and Rep. Robert Garcia, Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on National Security, Border, and Foreign Affairs wrote to Donald Trump and requested:
For the past 20 months, the Committee has been “investigating efforts by foreign nationals” to target and coerce family members of US officials by offering them money or other benefits in exchange for certain actions.’ 24 That is serious and serious. The specific allegations raised by the Washington Post report—both that you accepted a $10 million cash bribe from the President of Egypt and that your political appointees at the DOJ obstructed an ongoing investigation into this potential bribe—are now compelling our Committee. to find more information to remove this matter. As Speaker Kevin McCarthy declared in August 2023, at the start of the impeachment investigation that actually cleared President Biden of wrongdoing, “I think this President wants to clear (his name) as soon as possible.”
We’re sure you’ll also want to refute this horrendous claim of corruption.
In that spirit, Mr. Trump, we ask that you cooperate with this Committee’s investigation by providing a complete and transparent response by September 17, 2024 to the following questions:
1. Do you directly or indirectly receive money from the President of Egypt or
government or be the primary beneficiary of any payment by the Egyptians
The president or the government?
2. Does any money come from the Egyptian President or the government
used, directly or indirectly, to benefit you or your presidential campaign?
3. Is there any money that comes from the President of Egypt or the government
used, directly or indirectly, to finance contributions to the campaign, the
refunds for loans made for the campaign, or other payments
anything you create or for the benefit of your campaign?
In addition, please provide, by September 17, 2024, the following information, together
with supporting documents, regarding the $10 million contribution or loan made to you
2016 presidential campaign on or around October 28, 2016:
4. Source of funds used for contributions or loans;
5. The date the donation or debt is repaid or forgiven;
6. Source of funds used to pay contributions or loans; and
7. Names of individuals and/or entities involved in financing, managing, or transferring payments related to original contributions or loans and their repayment or forgiveness.
The House Democratic investigation is based on a Washington Post report that the Egyptian government paid Trump $10 million in cash bribes during the 2016 campaign when his campaign was in dire financial straits.
Egypt received several policy benefits and foreign aid from the United States after Trump won the election and took office.
Trump’s DOJ has been accused of covering up bribery investigations during the former president’s tenure.
House Democrats will not sit back and allow Trump to become president without very serious bribery allegations being investigated.
As voters prepare to cast their ballots in early voting states, they need to know that the convicted felon is the Republican presidential candidate taking bribes from foreign governments.
The investigation is not ongoing, and what it finds could lead to more criminal problems for Donald Trump if he loses the election.
