Coronation Street star Christopher Harper has confirmed that he has left his role as pedophile Nathan Curtis.
Chris, 47, returned to the cobbles earlier this year to reprise his role as Bethany Platt’s (Lucy Fallon) abuser.
In a shock soap twist, he is revealed to be Lauren Bolton’s (Cait Fitton) O-Vidz account customer at the time of her disappearance.
Nathan quickly becomes the prime suspect, after running into Bethany and her boyfriend Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard), and her mother Sarah (Tina O’Brien).
Convinced that he is behind Lauren’s disappearance, residents track him to a building site and warn him to leave Weatherfield.
Gary Windass (Mikey North) attacks him, and then uses the money from the sale of Underworld to bribe him into leaving. Sarah then plans to plant evidence in the work van, but is caught in the act by bent copper Kit Green (Jacob Roberts).
Desperate to be the one to ‘solve’ the case, he orders Sarah to leave before laying down Lauren’s hair.
She is arrested for violating the restraining order, and after being represented by the cunning lawyer Joel Deering (Calum Lill), who happens to be a man. correct responsible, sent down.
In the past week, we’ve seen Sarah questioned by DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) about her involvement in the framing.
But it looks like Nathan’s reign of terror is over – as actor Chris takes to the stage in a new touring production of his drama ‘Art’.
‘Coronation Street is not a place for pedophiles to travel to recover and be loved,’ said Digital Spy.
‘It’s not something you should do in a soap. So, I really believe that if Nathan is back, then he will not be forgiven. But I also knew that it was time for him to come out (of prison), so I was surprised.’
He continued: ‘When I got the call from the producer, I was terrified. I was shaken, because the story was very emotional at the time, and it made such a difference to my life, the people I met through it.
‘So, going back to Nathan was quite an emotional journey for me, to be honest.’
Confirming his exit, Chris continued: ‘I’m definitely not coming back, but never say never! I really don’t want him to have a forgiveness arc. So I don’t know why they keep coming back to Weatherfield.
‘This is Bethany’s journey, not hers. It’s definitely about Bethany’s life, and I think she’s done her time.’
In his initial assignment, which began in 2016, he was arrested for raping the teenager, and groomed her for several months.
He works in a tanning salon, creates tutorials for hairstyles and posts them online with positive comments – not knowing that he uses his assistant Mel Maguire (Sonia Ibrahim) to enhance his look and create beautiful works.
Not long after, Bethany fell in love with him and Sarah, wary of her age, was unable to contact him.
