The new ‘Grinch Christmas Adventure’ ride has been slammed as a rip-off by customers who left feeling very underwhelmed.
The new ride is on display at Glasgow’s Winterfest Christmas market and is just one minute long.
It has been called ‘cart to take you for a spin and show you the Grinch section of Primark.’
One customer, 25-year-old Elizabeth Hunter, spoke of her disappointment after paying to enjoy a ‘Christmas light show.’
He said: ‘After paying the £5 entry fee – £1 for every ten seconds I spent on the journey – I jumped into a carriage shaped like Grinchhead and start the journey.
The carriage was moving, as the safety bars flailed wildly and the whirring and clunking sounds of heavy machinery filled the ride – perhaps some Christmas music would have been more appropriate?
‘When the carriage chugged along, I was greeted by two hanging jumpers and some socks with it Grinch‘s face on him, and inflatable Grinch ceiling-mounted light – which looks very similar to the 6ft outdoor decoration found at Home Bargains for £25.
‘In 20 seconds, the cart has reached the upper level which provides you with a split second look through the market – and who is unlucky enough to wait for their turn in the ride – before whizzing down the ramp and hitting a complete stop.’
A note written on the page of the ride’s ticket booth read: ‘This isn’t a ghost train – it’s a Christmas lights ride.’
Elizabeth’s experience continued to worsen.
He added: ‘Despite the warning that this is not a ghost train, a closer look at the journey will reveal the dark skulls that adorn the walls – artfully hidden by little elf costumes hanging in front of them.
‘I thought for a moment that the car had broken down, as I sat there for a few seconds as the noise grew more and more unpleasant – but the car turned the corner back into daylight, and my carriage hit the empty one in front, before the automatic. the voice said I got out of the ride.
‘With that, I left the journey, less than a minute after getting on board – £5 poorer and a little in disbelief at my bravery.
‘It seems that the operator of the car has taken leaves out of it Grinch‘Books – and not just when it comes to decorating!’
The Grinch ride has been compared to the infamous Willy Wonka experience, also in Glasgow, earlier this year which went viral on social media.
At the event, dubbed the Willy’s Chocolate Experience, customers are charged £35 to attend a splashy, bleak landscape interspersed with plastic models of mushrooms and gummy bears.
Flyer experience though, promises ‘encherining entertainment’ and ‘heavenly sweet treats.’
There was no candy, and customers were outraged by the experience.
House of Illuminati, the company behind the show, is offering refunds to ticket buyers because the £35 show is so bad.
The event was eventually cancelled, with organizer Billy Coull, 36, apologizing to those who paid for it.
